Firsttime post here. New user to DAZ 3D Studio. But of backbround info... I have been involved with different kind of IT stuff over the past 20 years, so not a complete noob. I have managed to 'repair' issues or 'hack' issues when things go south, either by my own understanding or searching relative product forums.

So I have been having the "missing files" issues as well, and have been readings posts of people with the same issues. Tried suggested solutions but not luck so far. I am fairly sure that I have my settings right. But, as in the past, I have also learned that when it comes to IT stuff, to be humble as in your face problems/solutions are often overlooked. Too much browsing/reading tends to have you over look obvious problem. So in humbleness I come to the forum with this post/request. I'm fresh out of ideas!

If a picture speaks a thousand words, I got 6000 words for you today. Here are screenshots of the problem, errors, file locations.... The problem at hand is with a Joker outfit, for Genesis 3 on the Nathalie doll and the clothing is for Genesis 3.

I hope this helps with providing info in helping me try and resolve this problem (I have other examples like this too with other stuff in DAZ). I hope to resolve this one and understand how this works and resolving the others too.

You should not have a "Content" folder in your library. Move everything that folder up one. In your Content Directory Manager remove the last path under DAZ Studio Formats. Connect data should not be installed to any of your normal libraries. Usually tou would have the same paths set under Poser Formats as you have und DAZ Studio Formats with the exception being if you an all Poser format library.

Thanks for replying too. I have added the files and fixed that problem. but I must have gone too far because I had to reinstall Genesis 2 and 3 essentials. some of the free(basic) outfits are 'damaged' too. will try and redownload them to try and fix it.

Does DS have a limit on how many files it can have at one time under Smart Content? I have had to reinstall things that were already installed, and there are many things just plain missing that I find in the next tab down. Still looking for my ironman poses and a few environments.

I have read things on how to change paths, how to edit the paths, how to uninstall and reinstall and so on. However, once in a blue moon and almost unequivocally on other Daz retail site models, I will encounter an issue where the person set the file path name incorrectly. It maybe a typo or they mislabel a folder, whatever. And, after retracing their steps, I eventually can find whatever they did wrong and fix it. However, in the name of efficiency, I want to know the actual "in program" Daz shortcut to locate a file. Sometimes, when Daz loads these files onto my scenes, it will actually pop up and give me the option to locate the files- sometimes not. In which menu or what button combination does one use to literally force Daz to open a "locate file" window so that I can easily just select the supposed "missing files" that are actually there and move on with my rendering? I am certain there must be a way to do this and thanks for your help!

Images give you a prompt to find the missing file, other asset types (in .dsf format) don't. I'm not aware of any way to change this, unfortunately. One reason may be that if the base .dsf file is misplaced then it's likely some or all of the other parts (UVs, morphs, etc.) will also be misplaced - and not necessarily in the same way - and the others are not usually called by name but loaded as DS scans the hierarchy. That would make accurately finding the base file and then its dependencies much more complex than finding a missing map.

I'm getting a "missing file" reference to a .duf that I moved when I was tidying up my working files. The problem is that I have no idea why that .duf is being called for in the scene I'm opening and when I look at the uncompressed scene file there is no reference whatever to the missing file or anything I can surmise that would be referenceing it. I'm presuming that the reference is buried somewhere inside some node or some other asset I load, but when I look in the Property Heirarchy for each top level node in the scene (which appears to list every asset that is within that node), I cannot find any reference to the asset in the missing .duf

It gives me the file name and path, Richard. That's how I know the history (that I moved the file) and how I can work around. What is stumping me is knowing why that file is even being referenced and where to locate the reference (either in the .dufs etc or from within the opened scene) so that I can either update or remove that reference.

This is a screenshot of the message box on opening. I've moved that file to a different path as part of my tidy up, so I can "recover" if needed but I don't know why I have that file anywhere in the scene and I can't find any asset that I think would be part of it, in order to remove the reference

So far I have had very few problems with Daz Studio, mainly using the standard characters to model references. But...I needed to get some running shoes for a project and when installed (by the download manager) I keep getting the same message...See the image here abouts. I have looked through the download manager and looked for the list of files, which seems to say the missing file exists. And I have also re-installed the files.

By the way other files loaded at the same time have also complained, a couple (Daz characters) have since fixed themselves, the shoes have not (the most important ones) and neither have things like the 'Surf's up Hat'.

The only thing I can suggest, is to post a screenshot of your Content Directory Manager, showing an expanded listing of your DAZ Studio Formats folders.

The path C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library MUST be listed as a DS Formats folder or DS will not be able to find the 'data' folder, and that is what usually causes this to happen.

I went looking and discovered that at various times some files have been stored in my user profile and others in the public profile. I added a new folder to the directory and I am able to now access the products. Yay!

Would you suggest moving the files so they are in one folder? The only advantage I see is being able to search everything without switching directories. Is it a case of just moving the files, or is there some form of installation process?

The DIM uses the public profile as the default location. If you move everything from there, manually, then it won't be able to uninstall/update any of it. And moving stuff that the DIM did not install to its default folder can lead to orphan files, incorrect updates and acne...

The usual suspects are;

Logging in to Daz Studio and allowing Daz Connect update/install content

Installing content into C:\Users where OneDrive highjacks the files

Having nested Content Libraries (one inside another)

Hi PerttiA Thank you for your comment. I usually just allow DIM to load my content but I do load it to a separate external drive. What you say about one-drive is interesting, I have discovered countless DAZ images in my one-drive and because it is 'linked' to my mobile phone the files have appeared there as well. I have solved that by deleting oonedrive from my PC. That has had the effect of removing all the images from my phone. I don't really use one-drive too much so it's not a problem for me. I think I might try deleting and re-installing DAZ.

Thank you all for trying to help me with these problems. What a great community this DAZ forum is, I am very grateful. However, I now, for some reason, have a white workspace so I need to persue that and try to correct it before I can proceed further. I do not have a clue as to how this has happened. I guess I have to accept these things as learning curves.

Did you just update DS? A white workspace usually means that DS was still shutting down in the background when the new version was installed - make sure DS has closed (check task manager), then uninstall and reinstall (this is one of the rare cases in which that is actually useful).

There are several reason why a file may be flagged as missing when attempting to load an item. In addition to the one pointed out by NorthOf45 which I have very rarely encountered, I have encountered the cases of
