Public Notice is hereby given that the City of Rensselaer Planning
Commission, as lead agency in accordance with Article 8 of the New
York State Environmental Conservation Law, has accepted as complete a
Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement (DGEIS) on the proposed
DeLaet’s Landing (Marx Properties) development.
A Public Hearing will be held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 24 on
the first floor of City Hall, 62 Washington Street, Rensselaer, NY to
invite public input on the DGEIS submitted by the applicant, Marx
Properties, under the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA).
All present will have the opportunity to be heard. In addition, a
written comment period on this DGEIS will begin on January 21, 2009.
Written comments are due by 4:30 PM on March 13, 2009 to the contact
listed below or may be submitted at the public hearing.
On a site of approximately 27 acres the sponsor, Marx Properties,
proposes construction of a mixed use waterfront district (shorelines
to be reconfigured and engineered with public esplanade) for the
following site plan program elements: 515 residential units•165,000
square feet of retail space•250,000 square feet of office space•1,830
parking spaces•300 hotel rooms.
The project site is the grounds of the former Rensselaer High School,
on the east shore of the Hudson River roughly between the Dunn
Memorial Bridge and the Livingston Avenue Railroad Bridge and opposite
the City of Albany’s riverfront amphitheater. The local address of
the site is 575 Broadway (tax parcel # 143.52-1-1).
Copies of the DGEIS will be available beginning January 21, 2009 for
review at the City of Rensselaer Office of Planning & Development on
the second floor of City Hall at 62 Washington Street and at the City
of Rensselaer Library at 810 Broadway.
