Hello Rehabbers,

The Des Moines Rehabbers Club has received a generous donation of a "half" booth at the upcoming Natural Living Expo.  We will be sharing the booth with David Stecher of Castle & Cooke Mortgage in Beaverdale (he specializes in renovation lending, so it felt like a good fit).

Natural Living Expo hours are Mar. 27 from 10am-6pm and Mar. 28 from 11am-4pm.

I need a few volunteers who have attended a Rehabbers Club meeting to help staff the booth - If you can donate a couple hours to spread the word about our organization, please contact me off-list at st...@renovatedsm.com and let me know when you are available.  I'll be there for most of it as well.

“Mortar Matters”

A Joint Masonry Workshop

Ames—Friday, March 26^th

Mount Vernon—Saturday, March 27^th

9:00 am to 4:00 pm

 

Experience has taught us that the character and content of historic mortar is critical when considering the long-term preservation of a masonry building.  This one-day workshop offers the opportunity for property owners, architects, contractors, and preservationists to learn from two nationally recognized experts about the best approaches to the stabilization and preservation of historic masonry buildings.  Workshop topics include historic masonry, stucco, terra cotta, and chinking; problems of moisture damage—causes and solutions; preparing mortar specifications; and evaluating qualifications of masonry contractors.  Speakers are David Arbogast (Davenport, Iowa), consultant on historic mortar and John Speweik of Speweik Preservation Consultants (Elgin, Illinois).

 

Identical workshops will be held on separate days in Ames and Mount Vernon.

 

The registration fee is $35 which includes lunch, refreshments, and a free resource CD.  Register by Friday, March 19^th to guarantee a space.
