As parents, the first day of handing over your child to the care of another can be an emotional time. As your child adjusts to experiences without you at their childminder, nursery, or school, most parents continue to want to share in these times. Tapestry facilitates this, by enabling a personal journal, or diary, to build over time. Photographs, videos and notes of special moments are not only recorded, but can be made available regularly and often immediately to you.
Can anyone help- I want to allow all the parents of the 66 children leaving us to be able to download their child's learning journal- do I have to do each one individually or is there a quicker way to do this for a group of them?
You don't need to download the journal yourself - you create it for the parents and they download it to their computer via Tapestry. If you follow the tutorial you will see the option to generate the PDF for staff or for relatives. Then you will select an option to 'allow recipient to download' the PDF once you have generated it. Once you have done this, relatives can access their PDF downloads page by logging into their Tapestry account in a web browser, clicking on their name at the top-right and clicking "PDF Downloads". You can follow how they are getting on downloading the journal by looking at your 'History' in your control panel.
When I mentioned on social media that I was going to do a blog post about tapestry I was inundated with questions, which I hope to answer as best I can below. Please do bear in mind though that I am by no means an expert and have not received any form of training.
Absolutely not! In an era where more and more schools are using social media and blogs to interact with parents, it is only a matter of time before everyone changes to using online journals. Try not to be be scared, just embrace it!
With the traditional scrap book style of learning journal you would often only be able to have very limited access to the child's journal and would be reliant on small amounts of feedback from staff members while at the nursery. Tapestry, however, allows you to instantly access your child's learning journals from home meaning you can stay up to date with everything your child has been learning and doing at West Park Kindergarten. Tapestry is available through your phone, tablet or computer giving you the freedom to view your child's progress at nursery whenever you want.
Tapestry helps to build strong partnerships between parents and the staff at nursery by giving you the option of interacting with the observations made by our staff and by allowing you to make your own observations from home. You can help supplement your child's learning at nursery by sharing what you get up to at home.
The communication between staff and parents that Tapestry enables, helps build a shared understanding of how every child can reach their full potential, from birth to the end of primary school. The Tapestry online learning journal is also available as an easy-to-use, secure app, meaning capturing key learning moments, and videoing milestones are even easier."
Fundamental to our ethos is that the learning that occurs and the activities we share with the children are very much grounded in the interests and needs of the individuals that we work with. To enable us to capture these interests we use Tapestry Online Learning Journal which is a website and app that instantly allows us to share photographs, videos and comments from the children with parents and keeps a record for us as a team from which we can base our planning.
To be able to access Tapestry you will require a personal email address and a password. We will use the email address you gave us at registration and will email you a password. Once you have signed our consent form, and given it to Leanne, we will be able to activate your account and the shared online learning journal will start. It is really important that you read this consent form carefully to ensure we keep all of children safe whilst we are using this system. The consent form can be downloaded here.
It is most effective for parents to access Tapestry using the downloadable apps for smart phones and tablets. Go to the Google play store, the apple store or iTunes to download the app. It is also possible to access it using the internet. To logon to Tapestry using the internet, please use the login link:
Because children play in close proximity with their friends it does not reflect a true picture of their time here if photographs are only of a single child. Therefore photographs of your child may appear on their friends learning journeys. This is the same as their paper journals.
At Pre-School we started to using 'Tapestry Online Learning Journal' from October 2021. Tapestry has now gone live to parents who received an email allowing them to activate their account. Once activated parent's will see their child's online journal. We take little 'snippets' of some of the activities the children have enjoyed doing during their sessions and upload them to the child's account.
Pre-School will be using Tapestry to work together with parents as an aid to communication. We will include every child's next steps, their 2 year reviews, half-term 'home' learning and also some of the fun we have at Pre-School.
We believe that parents know their children best and we ask them to contribute to assessment by sharing information through Tapestry about what their children like to do at home and how they as parents are supporting development.
At Stanhope 2022/2023 parental engagement was 100% . We aim to keep this up by encouraging parents to use their log-ins that are provided and log on each week to read observations that have been published. Feel free to log in on a more regular basis and upload your own observations.
Tapestry is an online learning journal that we use to inform parents of their child's learning in our Foundation Unit. It allows us to evidence and celebrate children's progress and share these events with you.
We use this facility to build strong partnerships with the parents of all our 98 children in Foundation Unit, allowing you an insight into their learning and play at school. It also provides parents with the opportunity to add observations from home and to comment and ask questions on the ones added by staff.
