I've used ESET for years, played these games with it previously. But this last month, it refuses to let them connect. The only way I've been able to run either is to disable the firewall the entire time I play, and that's not a good solution. That also tells me though, that ESET is definitely the problem.
Every other thread I've seen on this topic ends with "delete all the existing rules and put it into interactive mode"
but that has not worked for me. Interactive mode is how I normally leave the firewall, and it works for everything else, but I am never getting the pop-up for these. I've even tried a trick I've learnt with some other programs, which is to disable for 10 minutes, run the application and then wait for ESET to 'discover' it when it turns back on. But in these cases it just shuts down all communication at that point. Which in WoW kicks me off, and in Hearthstone crashes the application completely.

I've been trying to manually configure both applications. First allowing all, then specifically allowing the ports indicated on -proxy-router-and-port-configurationbut I'm not getting anywhere with that either. It's possible I'm setting it up wrong, because I have no idea what I'm doing there.
My suspicion is it has something to do with port 3724, since Hearthstone and WoW have that in common. Diablo III, which I launch through the same Blizzard launcher etc does not use that port, and operates fine.
I want to add to this thread and post that after 9.0.375.0 came out, I have had nothing but problems. Windows Store Apps will not update "all" of them. My Second Life "Game" keeps saying it found a Degrade in Performance and locks up. My printer, my WD Cloud HDD, and other stuff are getting BLOCKED! I have hit unblock but they just block it again. I have uninstalled, used the eset uninstaller, did a clean install of Windows 10 and nothing wants to work properly unless I just uninstall eset and leave it off the computer. This needs to get fixed asap!

Did you use default settings after installing ESET from scratch? If so, please carry on as follow:
- uninstall ESET (e.g. in safe mode using the ESET Uninstall tool)
- configure Windows to generate complete memory dumps as per
- install ESET and reproduce the issue
- trigger a manual crash so that a complete memory dump is generated
- uninstall ESET
- collect logs with ESET Log Collector
- compress the memory dump and upload it together with ELC logs to a safe location
- drop me a personal message with a download link.
As i said, i've noticed it started to happen few days ago, i don't know if there was an update from ESET for this option. I know only that Chrome and Firefox got updated, and then it start to happen. My PC is strong enough to run even newest games with no problem, but with this option enabled it cannot even run simple browser with few tabs
Something is worng with this option for sure, it started to happen after the new Chrome and Firefox updates few days ago. Obviously ESET needs a fix to adopt new changes in the browsers code. It's not so noted in Firefox as in Chrome. In Chrome it literally stops/freezes for few seconds when changing tabs. I am talking about the sites that are not in a payment range, so the banking does not need to be enabled (like paypal or some banking sites).
Please carry on as follows:
- reboot the machine
- enable advanced operating system logging under Tools -> Diagnostics in the advanced setup
- reproduce the issue
- disable logging
- collect logs with ESET Log Collector
If the generated archive is too big to upload it here, upload it to a file sharing service and drop me a message with a download link.
Yes, please provide ELC logs. Before collecting them, enable advanced logging under Help and support -> Technical support, then launch a browser and reproduce the issue. Next stop logging, collect logs and upload the generated archive here along with a description of the issue that you have reproduced.
I'm confused by log collecting. There are what look like to entirely separate log collection facilities, one described at -how-do-i-use-eset-log-collector, and the other in ESET Internet Security under Help and Support -> Technical Support.
Keep getting pop-up message 'ESET Smart Security Premium has limited direct cloud connectivity' which directs me to -ports-and-addresses-required-to-use-your-eset-product-with-a-third-party-firewall that advises me to '... hosts in each ESET component must be made accessible ...
I'm also having the same problem, it started happening last week, I don't have any other firewall on this PC and I have 3 other computers on the same network with the same version of ESET installed non of which are having any problems so its definitely not the ISP.
Please enable advanced logging under Help and support -> Details for customer care and reproduce the issue. Next disable logging, collect logs with ESET Log Collector and upload the generated archive here.
For me it does not look like issue with blocked ports, as connectivity issue appears only for few minutes and then it works fine for few hours or even rest of the day. Sometimes it gives me 3 popups a day, it is random.
The file name will be iris.dc.0.log but if you keep logging enabled for a longer time another log with "1" instead "0" will be created, etc. You can try the nslookup commands that I listed above and let us know about the result.
Per the below Rotex screen shot, appears Eset uses geographically dispersed Internet staging servers. My suspicion is any internet LiveGrid connectivity issues lie with whatever source (highlighted) that is doing the hosting. My short duration issue occurred on Sunday. Assumed in this incident the hosting source was probably doing maintenance on the server/s.
I recently upgraded a computer to ESET Smart Security 9 and I've notice a weird behavior. Opening or closing excel files that are on a OneDrive folder have a noticeable delay when closing the excel application, around 10-20 seconds that the aplication gets stuck doing nothing as soon as you click on close, this happens even when the file is newly created and completely blank. I have Office 2016 (365) and use OneDrive to store/edit my files, with the CoAuthoring option disabled (to precisely avoid this delay because of the office sync feature). This didn't happen when i had Smart Security 8. And doesn't happened with any other office application (word, powerpoint, etc), only excel, but since those are the files that I work the most at the moment it's a big annoyance. I have to constantly open and close excel files, buy now i have to wait 10-20 seconds each time.
In fact I did the test on another computer, I put the same setup: a OneDrive folder (with coauthoring disabled) with an empty excel file and SmartSecurity 8 and everything works fine, as soon as I move to SmartSecurity 9 the same problem appear.
So I'm trying to update from 14.0.22.0 to 15.0.21.0, but the program won't update. Nothing happens when I press to update, not even the download starts. Even with the firewall off the download won't start.
I have always used ESET smart security, and untill now I have always been happy with this choice. However, since a couple of weeks, ESET is unable to update. The updates can be downloaded, but at the last moment ESET gives the following message: 'unable to create file' (this is a translation, my version is Dutch, I guess this would be the english translation).
Edit: I can't seem to find the option to rollback! In my version of smart security, in advanced settings, under the folder 'updates' I can only see the subfolder 'updates' and not 'advanced settings'. This means, I can't find where to rollback!
Okay, so I tried reinstalling ESET. But now everything is failing. I can't activate my product, because there is a failure in communication with the activationserver... The anti-virus function doesn't work because of an error with the installation, and the update still has the same problem... What is going on? :-o
I'm having this same problem too. All I get is, Virus Signature Database update ended with an error Virus Signature Database update ended with an error Virus Signature Database update ended with an error Virus Signature Database update ended with an error Virus Signature Database update ended with an error Virus Signature Database update ended with an error Virus Signature Database update ended with an error Virus Signature Database update ended with an error Virus Signature Database update ended with an error Virus Signature Database update ended with an error Virus Signature Database update ended with an error Virus Signature Database update ended with an error Virus Signature Database update ended with an error Virus Signature Database update ended with an error Virus Signature Database update ended with an error Virus Signature Database update ended with an error
I've had eSET for at least two years, so I doubt Arakasi's suggestion is relevant, unless my computer has been infected with something for over two years, and only now, since I first posted, has the virus signature database stopped updating. I sent a settings export and sysinspector log to moderator Peter Randziak (sp?) via private message. I'm very nervous about having sent the log because you're forced to leave the name as the program saves it, which gives whoever views the log, the 'name' of your computer. I'd thought we were supposed to never reveal this?
