Folks,

Here's some of the places I visited when I Googled "Natural Gas Bans/Electrification and Reach Codes".

I will be a few minutes late to tonight's meeting... Apologies in advance.

Regarding the states banning a ban on natural gas, in the national committee I’m on at the AIA, I asked about banning the ban on the ban, in other words, encouraging architects not use natural gas, period, ban or no ban.  That’s a little ahead of where everyone is, but it is a thought that gets around the states not wanting a ban on natural gas.

And here's what I found- a list of websites with links to various cities' ordinances and a few selected ordinances that might be of interest.

Thanks for this Paula 9and for taking a leadership role on the committee for this!),

To All... This a great document with lots of resources... on the bottom of page 1 are a couple dozen California communities ordinances - some are drafts some are very short and sweet some are long and complicated...  Also Page 2 briefs about "Beyond California" and bottom of Page 3 has resources for local advocates!

Thank you all for the great input last night and in the recent communications. Assembling a draft ordinance will certainly help Cara make progress. We have a good base of information to start!

Thanks Catie. Any input you can provide is certainly welcome. We're assembling these main components:
  • Key statements of justification (the "Whereas" list)
  • Criteria for applicability (new construction, existing buildings, what size, what kind of buildings, affordable  housing vs others, specific end-use appliances, etc. AND reasonably eligible exemptions)
  • Timing: effective dates, phasing, etc.
  • Enforcement/incentives: penalties, delay/expediting of permits/inspections/occupancy, forms of financial assistance, etc.
To your point, we also need some background info on how to rebut the typical list of pushback items. Also need to consider potential interactions/overlap with CEJA and IRA programs under development.

Joel

Sorry I couldn't have been at the meeting last night but I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. This is a tricky subject with so much consumer pushback.
