Hello CGE Energy People,

Please find the August meeting notes which contains a reference to a vexing problem we (I) am having registering all those interested in participating on the Action Team... for some reason, despite repeatedly trying to add new members, the Google Group site does not add them! (this is surprising since many are gmail addresses!)

So for the time being some other "extras" not on this "RenewEvanstonGoogleGroup" - please see list attached... will be added manually. Since Joel is not available at this moment (methinks the lucky devil is canoeing in Wisconsin with his pals) I am adding all extras that were included in a recent communication by him - If you are one of the "extras" who does not wish to be in theses distributions... Please advise me ASAP! And thanks!
Similarly, if you are on the GoogleGroup list and don't want to be... please let me know!

Alas, I will be out of the country between Sept 1st and 21st... Sorry to miss next meeting.

Feel free to call me directly - before Wednesday afternoon please!

Subject: CGE Energy Action Aug 17 Meeting follow up

Hi Energy Action Friends,

Following up from last night's discussion, I'm passing along these three items:

City Information
For City email newsletters, updates, etc., you can select your opt-in or opt-out by subscribing here:  https://www.cityofevanston.org/how-to/email-and-text-updates

With many topics, some will occasionally overlap, but I've found them helpful to keep up with City issues or event announcements. The category of "Special Interest" has a Bids and Proposals list which gets posted every Thursday. The list of new items each week is usually short. It offers a nice simple window into new work being solicited by the City and regularly contains items of interest for our energy group.

Inflation Reduction Act
If anyone looks through and finds items that might apply to Evanston, please pass your thoughts along to the group.

Energy Action Meetings
We agreed on a new standing date for meetings: Second TUESDAY of each month. For our September meeting, T. has again offered his home as our meeting spot at 1021 Darrow. Thanks T!

Look forward to seeing you all again in September. Please call anytime!

This just in from CGE vice president, Chuck Wasserburg. If you can take a few minutes for this brief energy survey, that would be great. See the highlighted link below.

Subject: [CGE Board] Can You Take This Survey On Climate Messaging?

Hi All:

CGE recently received a request from Hannah Curcio, an NU graduate who's now pursuing a PhD in Environmental Psychology at Colorado State University. She's conducting research on the type(s) of climate messages that best promote sustainable behavior and asked if we could participate and share it. It sounded like a fascinating effort and I said yes.

The survey takes about 10 minutes and focuses in particular on how people use household appliances. Here's the link:  https://colostate.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_e2oD29eC4JQQTye

If you can take it within the next week that would be ideal. They will share results of the study once it's completed.

Thanks!

Chuck

Illinois base Energy code most likely will be passed by the JCAR board late fall so would most likely take effect early next year, maybe even Jan 1.  Many folks protested the weakening of the residential requirements, so CDB is trying to navigate that minefield.

Illinois stretch code process started today and is slated to complete late summer 2023 for adoption around Jan 1 of 2024.  The CEJA legislation has two nice things, it requires the stretch code to be somewhat more stringent than the base code as a min, more on the commercial side, less (more but less more) on the residential side AND requires at least two updates in the future.

So, as we think about the residential sector, that's really two years we either sit or maybe come up with a small interim plan.

meanwhile, also in late 2023 the updated national IECC code will come out and may in fact supercede the stretch code, so basically in late 2023 unless the stretch code folks do a bang up job, it will not be a stretch code.

AND, the stretch code folks are gathering input between now and the end of October.  (yes I have an entire bag of suggestions I am formatting)

Thanks

Thanks Len!
Great update on the code development. We should have a conversation with Cara in light of this outlook.
