Around the world, young people are on the frontlines of the fight to protect our planet from climate change. And for good reason — they’ll bear the brunt of destruction. But author and environmentalist Bill McKibben argues that “experienced Americans” over 60 also play a vital role in taking climate action.

I wanted to thank those of you who were able to attend the Friday post-services program on Climate Action and Third Act. Based on requests, I’ve pulled together the following information so you can learn more:

 

Third Act was founded by Bill McKibben, American environmentalist, author, and journalist who has written extensively on the impact of global warming. He also founded 350.org. See Check out Third Act  

·    Third Act Illinois is a working group for concerned elder citizens in Illinois.  I’m on the coordinating committee.

·    We act alone and partner with many environmentally-oriented organizations to promote individual action and amplify the power of collective action. When we act together, we can build our community and have greater impact. See info below about our upcoming Day of Action.

Our exciting Day of Action is coming up soon!!

·   Theme: Stop Dirty Banking

·   When: Tuesday, March 21, 11am - 1pm.

·   Where: Chase Bank Plaza, 10 S. Dearborn Street, Chicago

·   What:  Join us as we demand that JP Morgan Chase cease using our deposits to finance climate change through its investment in the fossil fuel industry. Third Act Illinois members, friends, and allies will gather to make this point loud and clear. We must act now and act together to move the world in a more sustainable direction. Our lives, the lives of our children, and our planet depend on it.

·    Note this is a peaceful event and we encourage everyone to bring a stroller if possible! More details to come.
