Dear Yacine Mbaye,

I am Joseph K. Lelon from Kenya Forestry research Institute working collaboration with Mr Peter Kuria of Shalin on Biochar project in Kenya. I would like to introduce to you a local NGO, newly registered and require funding support for small- scale renewable development project for alternative sources of livelihood in rural areas of Kenya. The NGO is called Bioenergy Research and Development Foundation (BIFORAD).

BIOENERGY RESEARCH AND DEVELOPOMENT FOUNDATION (BIFORAD)

Background

Bioenergy Research and Development Foundation (BIFORAD) is a registered local non-governmental organization (NGO) established in 2011. BIFORAD is committed to bring positive changes in the society by promoting equality, peace, harmony and democratization. It works for economically strong society that can fulfill all fundamental rights of human beings in Kenya.  The organization is geared towards undertaking human development activities including capacity building, advocacy, education and family and health care services.

Its main objective is to improve livelihood and household incomes for resource poor community members through sustainable utilization, management and conservation of natural based resources. To establish quality assurance of biofuel seeds for high oil yield, value addition and quality products. To establish bio energy industries in arid and semi arid lands (ASALs) areas for creation of self employment and reduced reliance on paid employment in urban areas and relief food assistance.

The organization requires a budget to implement projects initiated by locals and aim to support the most vulnerable parts of the society. The vulnerable groups in the society are infected HIV-AIDS Women and children and girls at Household level in Keiyo South District, Kenya.

To reduce the risk of HIV transmission and or contraction by Keiyo South community members; through development, implementation, assessment, monitoring, evaluation and validation of a comprehensive community-wide HIV&AIDS awareness, care, support and prevention strategy; with outreach strategy. In Keiyo South District, HIV-AIDS in both Women and children in female-headed households are disadvantaged in a number of ways for they are unable to be employed and engage in other useful income generating activities due to believe that their out put in terms of production is low . They tend to limit their labour time in household tasks and have poor skills and low educational quality and therefore fewer opportunities for employment in labour market. Over 70 per cent of agricultural related activities in rural areas are carried out by women. Often women in women headed households tend to own resources of poorer quality that consequently result in low production. Kindly assist please.

Regards,

Joseph K. Lelon
