Itseems that this is actually the normal behaviour. USB memory sticks show up in Windows Media player but only for syncing files - there is no play option. The only way I could find of opening the files is to use File -> Open... from the main menu. It is possible to open several files at once by dragging a selection rectangle over them.
I used to use Media Player to play from my external hard drive by setting it as a library location but this isn't allowed with most memory sticks as they Media Player detects that they are removable devices.
If you have a spare external hard drive then you could try using that instead and add it to Windows Media Player's library locations. To do this, right-click Music in the left-hand pane, then choose Manage Music library and click the Add... button.
Unless you are really set on using Windows Media Player, my advice is to download foobar2000 and install it on to the memory stick in portable mode - suitable for use at work as no files need to be installed on the host computer. Using Library -> Configure you can tell it to look at a folder on the drive that contains music, and any new files get indexed automatically.
In a file explorer window, I right click on the drive, select "share with" and then "advanced sharing" (which is the only option I see). This brings up a popup with tab "sharing" showing a button "Advanced Sharing". I click on that, which brings up another popup that has a checkbox to "Share this folder". I click that to put a checkmark in it and hit OK.
1.Navigate to your USB drive and find the folders you want
2. Select the relevant music files you want to play
3a. Right click on the selection and select Play (for individual albums)
3b. Right click on the selection and select Add to WMPlayer Playlist (for adding all songs to one large list)
Select your USB and open it,select the track you wish to play and right click.from the listSelect 'open with' from the drop down box select 'Window media Player'Starts to play.Hope you understand terminology.
If anyone is still interested in this the current version of VLC is able to do this very well without any kind of scripting or add-on. As far as I know however you can only play two files synchronously, not 3.
Voil, you got synchronized playback. The kind where a single set of playback controls is used for all streams so you wouldn't have to "Invest in some finger weights and train yourself to click very quickly" as @
ta.speot.is suggests.
Untested because my wine setup is completely screwed right now. It doesn't do side by side but stacked playback (unless you have a very good lcd you won't be seeing the same thing by playing the same vid in two opposite corners of the screen anyway)
I have the same problem but I have not seen any satisfactory solutions online so far (and believe me I had done a thorough search). At last I come up with my own solution that do not require any extra $. Although this is an old question, I hope my workaround will still be useful.
This will open up three VLC instances, each with one of the three videos and all playing in a very synchronized fashion, at least to your eye. However, the three instances will be overlapping each other initially. You will need to click on the title bar of each of the instance to move them around without interrupting the playback so that you can see them playing side-by-side on your screen. This is rather annoying but I consider it a very small inconvenience.
I have tried but it is not possible to control all the instances with hotkeys for stop, forward, backward etc. However, the option '--repeat' will put the videos in a loop, so you can just wait for them to start over.
Whether they are able to start playing at exactly the same time is a different matter. Even if they are able to start straight away, I imagine there will be some fighting for the hard drive. Might want to make a RAM disk if this is an important evaluation.
You could choose multiple points in your videos to compare different types of image (clouds, smoke, trees, grass, motion are good for encoding comparisons) and take the same frames from each of your videos.
Don't worry - it's quick and painless! Just click below, and once you're logged in we'll bring you right back here and post your question. We'll remember what you've already typed in so you won't have to do it again.
i have the same problem :
i have tried to :
- reinstall apps
- disabled hardware acceleration
- delete local file
- install from windows store
- clean reinstall
the only thing work if change speaker output to HDMI and back to my external DAC which is from NVIDIA High Definition audio to NuPrime uDSD output everytime i open spotify. It is so frustrating to do that everytime, any solution?
Ok, I found solution for my own problem, change the usb port where the usb dac is plugged solved my problem , now i don't need to change output everytime i start spotify, fiuhhhh
This problem only appeared recently on my computer. Used to be able to play until about a month ago. Tried deleting ad re-installing. Looked at a few fixes on this thread, but nothing seems to fix this. Whether I download the playlist to the computer or not, can't play anything. Internet connection is fast, so I should be able to play direct on line, but keep getting the same warning. Very frustrating
I was in the same situation. I was able to play local files from my computer to my phone until it stopped recently. It will say "Can't play this right now, the song isn't available on your device." I tried all the solutions above and it didn't work. I fixed the issue by uninstalling Spotify and installing the Spotify app straight from my Microsoft Store app in Windows. That resolved it.
Some randon songs won't start and instead ""Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it" is shown. It does not help to click another song, and then the problematic song in the hopes it will then work. It will not. Other songs (that are just as new as the problem song) will work and start to play immediately). Even when I go to the album of the problem song, the problem song will not play, but all the others in that album will play. THIS PROVES IT IS NOT A BANDWIDTH OR HIGH QUALITY ISSUE.
- It's highly disruptive because I have to keep track of songs that did not play, to revisit them. It is also disruptive because upon not playing the song, Spotify will skip it and play some other song. Super annoying.
UPDATE: Sometimes, the time it will take to play the song is short, i.e. after 5 seconds it WILL work. In sum it looks to me like a performance issue, with data not being downloaded fast enough. I believe a solution might be to prioritize download of a song that the user has just clicked on, and pause any other downloads of other songs.
I am having this issue. I have restarted the computer that didn't work. I uninstalled Spotify which was downloaded from the website and it still does not play the songs. I have updated my drivers and that has not sorted the issue out.. I still can not play any songs on my PC Windows 10 Pro system. They will play fine on my Tablet and my phone.
Hi folks, I created an account here as a thanks of sorts for previous advices shared by the community. I was using my WD TV Live to play Local Storage files for the longest time until I tried to access shared drives on my home network recently. No problems with Mac file sharing from my home NAS, but the WD TV Live refused to display the PC shared folders on my Window 10 PC (initially). This is despite other PCs on the same network being able to view/access the shared folders.
Dear All,
After many years of success and failure with connecting WDTVs to Windows systems, I presently have a stable system, and I have posted a four-page note on the system adjustments, which in my experience are required to achieve this. You may find the note at: -r5.pdf
Kind regards, Peter
