Not sure it's of any real help for performance, but I remember someone trying tho over- (or under-) clock the CPU, by hacking the uboot binary, as explained in this thread:

Just to confirm that it works stable on 600 MHz - on impact on battery. Mine is set to this freq. 2 years ago
