"m3u8" URLs (live streaming video) playback gives black screen

I've debugged this issue a bit, but haven't found a viable solution as of now. I'm not sure if it's a limitation of the OMX hw firmware.

I've also posted a couple questions on expert forums, but no feedback as of now:

Nonetheless, a workaround (actually, sort of...) is to install MXPlayer, capture the streaming URL (somehow, from the browser) and switch MXPlayer to use "S/W" software codec.

No problem with .mp4 playback (i.e. standard YouTube, etc), using the Android stock player. It will make use of the hw codec (and save some battery...).
