HI Marshel,
I had deleted your previous post by mistake, sorry! Luckily I had this copy...
Anyway, yes, the SD card boot could be apossible test. I had also published a tutorial on how to build a bootable Sd card (largely originated from the discussion you have linked):
https://github.com/Renesas-EMEV2/Documentation/blob/emev-4.1/Bootloader.md (Preparing a "bootable" SD card)
https://github.com/Renesas-EMEV2/Bootloader/tree/emev-4.1/testsd (scripts here)
but the complete procedure requires a build env ready. I momentarly have no time to set the build up, so you could give the procedure you have linked a try.
Try using the uboot binaries from the link you have posted and the uImage4 from my latest JB build. The Android fs needs a tiny hack, as explained in my tutorial. I can't guarantee the success of this "mix"...
Anyway, I don't see why you can't make it to the yellow upgrade screen... I have tested my latest build on my tablet, with a 2Gb SD card. Are you using a large SD card (i.e. > 2Gb)? Try re-formatting to 2Gb...
