We ended up chatting in the IRC room, but just to be complete, the answer was to use the 'data-pass-thru' element on links that you don't want the Rendr app to capture. eg: <a href="/bar.html" data-pass-thru>Let's go to the bar</a> The logic for this lives in the app_view.js _bindInterceptClick and _interceptClick.
