Happy New Year, folks!
I know we've been remiss in organizing events these last couple of months, but one half of Rendezfoods has been globetrotting (not this half, sadly - Sara was in Turkey, Belgium, Australia, and a bunch of other places I can't remember) and the other half (sigh - me) has been busy moving to Brooklyn.
We are also planning a couple more budget-friendly events than our last couple of eatups very soon (get excited - one involves grilled cheese sandwiches and booze; the other involves handmade noodles in a bubbling broth), but for now, we wanted to share an Alaskan feast coming up on Tuesday, January 10 in LES at
Culturefix (
9 Clinton Street at Houston, New York, NY 10002. 646-863-7171). 7 courses, $75. Beverage pairings, +$25. However, if we have enough interest, we are eligible for a group discount.
Let me know if you're down for reindeer sausage and Alaskan king crab and scallops by NOON Monday, January 11.
'Not Kosher, an Alaskan Jew Lands in NY': After a short hiatus, Dinnerfix is back with a vengeance. Culturefix is thrilled to partner with Chef Damon Cohen for our first Dinnerfix of the new year. This months theme, 'Not Kosher, an Alaskan Jew Lands in NY' explores the challenges of a Jew in Alaska, and a Chef spoiled by the abundance of Alaska, relocated to NYC.
Damon Cohen has been a chef for 15 years and has focused on the relationship between what is good to eat and what is sustainably available. The 7 course tasting menu will feature some Alaskan specialities and traditional jewish flavorings and techniques. $75 for 7 courses. $25 beverage pairing.
Menu:
- Oysters, pickled celery, mustard seed gastric
- Cured alaskan scallops, porter beerbread, pastrami cream, beets and sumac honey
- King Crab and purple potato kugel
- Chicken liver creme brulee, grilled grapes, chives and hazelnut oil
- Reindeer sausage and rabbit Chulent, buttered rye crumbs
- Seven hour Lamb shoulder, fresh Kale pasta, green olives, white anchovies
- Spiced date and chocolate mousse with Cranberry whipped cream
Seafood dreams,
Mel & Sara
