Is it possible to get a negative article removed from a major national news site?

Information about an arrest and trial I was involved in close to a year ago will soon be made public by a major national news organization. Is there anything I can do to prepare for the article to be released that will lessen the damage it has on my name and reputation online?
Is it at all possible (free or paid) to get articles removed from mega news publications like The LA Times, Patch.com or KRON4.com?
If I can't get the articles removed then what's my next best option? What do reputation management companies do for their clients in situations like this and how much does it typically cost?
Does anyone have experience with a company that they would recommend for work like this?

I am sure there are ways to remove negative articles for the internet.
Anything is possible.
