Hi there!

I tried out the 32-bit version of Remix OS on my Dell Venue 8 Pro 5830 (with installed Windows 8.1).
This device has a 64-bit processor, but a 32-bit UEFI.

I installed Remix OS via "Android-x86 Installer" on my tablet and I receive the following messages after booting Remix OS:

[   0.205468] ioremap error for 0x797a0000-0x797a9000, requested 0x2, got 0x0
[   3.259282] ioremap error for 0x797a0000-0x797a9000, requested 0x2, got 0x0

/hctoys.c: unable to open rtc device (rtc0)
Detecting Android-x86... found at /dev/mcblh0p4

Source of Remix OS 32-bit:

Source of "Android-x86 Installer":

I used "Android-x86 Installer" instead of "Remix OS USB Tool", because my tablet can't boot from this created bootable USB device. Windows will boot directly after choosing the USB device.
The tablet shows up a black screen for a few seconds after these message and Windows 8.1 will automatically boot after that.
I've got already deactivated "Secure boot" in UEFI.

Choosing "[GPU]Android-x86 xforcevesa", "[GPU]Android-x86 nomodeset" & "[GPU]Android-x86 xforcevesa nomodeset" will also not fix the problem.

Specs of my Dell Venue 8 Pro 5830:
Intel Atom Z3740D @ 1.33 GHz
2 GB Ram
32 GB HDD

More information about my tablet:

I hope someone is able to help me with that strange problem.

Best regards
Julian

I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro (3845 / 3000) with only 1gb ram, and I have tried different ways to get Android (and now RemixOS) on this tablet. No success, best results came to ANDROID: ..and then it ended with a dark illuminated screen.
As I am not too experienced I would like to have a dual boot - Win10 and Remix (Android) - without new partitioning my 32gb HDD and without attaching a USB-keyboard.
Any successful DVP8 users here?
Thanks roland

Hi Roland,

I researched a bit about this problem and I think it's because of the installed UEFI firmware.
This UEFI firmware is not able to boot in "legacy mode".

So, I think we have to wait for a 32-bit (U)EFI version of Remix OS. The available version of 32-bit Remix OS is for legacy mode only.

Best regards
Julian

Hello Julian,
I have also been searching for weeks to find a way to use either Linux or Android on my Dell. There is a so called Magic Stick 1.5 (you must google) and it boots from stick but I do not want to have sth. "hanging down" from my tablet. So I really would enjoy a foolproof dual-boot system.
You may be right and we have to wait.
Is our Dell tablet really that exotic? You hardly find anything about it (beside the problems with windows 10 upgrade).

Regards roland

Hi Roland,

thanks a lot for these interesting information!
I tried it out, but the DV8P can't boot Ubuntu or Android via Magic Stick 1.5.

I also tried to install Android via Magic Stick 1.5 on it, but it fails.
As example I tried to install Android with ext3 and fat32. I saw only a black screen after booting the installed Android x86 on the tablet.
Really, really strange... but I thank you for your information!

Btw:
The DV8P is not the only one "exoctic" device.
This problem is sadly very popular, if it's a device with a bay trail processor.
It's a 64-bit processor which can boot only 32-bit operating systems, because of 32-bit UEFI firmware. It's damned.

Best regards
Julian

I tried a different way now - Again with no success.
I checked the following topic:

The result:
Just a black screen after choosing "Android x86" in boot menu.

I also downgraded the bios from A14 to A03 (with a hex editor hack), but it doesn't helped.

I also tried to get more information while RemixOS boots via grub.cfg.
So, I removed "quiet" and added "nomodeset" into the parameters.
It looks good at first to receive more information, but I saw only a blinking _ at the bottom on the screen at the end... Not more.

I tried to add "noacpi" into command line parameters of grub.cfg too, but it doesn't helped.
FYI: My model is 5830 of Dell Venue 8 Pro.

Best regards
Julian

After months of unsuccessful trials to bring Linux or Android to my Dell Venue I have decided to stop ( at least for the moment ) it. I am very disappointed that I as the owner of a technical equipment cannot decide which OS I can use because of restrictions Microsoft together with hardware-producers have included.

Sorry for my bad English.
Hope you are more successful Julian

Hi, I encountered the same issue described in this thread. very disappointing. I have DV8P Z3740D 133GHZ.
*****  ist it likely for this issue to be resolved with 32-bit (U)EFI version of Remix OS?   ****** Cheers, Maksam.

Hi Fellow Supporters,

It seems many are having issues installing on Dell Venue 8 Pro.!!

Thanks to sajith offline help and after following his suggestions still unable to install at all.

Have tried combination
Remix_OS_for_PC_Installation_Tool-B2016040803.exe
Remix_OS_for_PC_64bit_B2016040501.iso
on both c:/ and partitioned D:/

Another combination
Androidx86-Installv24-5800.exe
Remix_OS_for_PC_64bit_B2016040501.iso
on both c:/ and partitioned D:/

none have worked... is anyone able to pinpoint the issue please... have many days and a lot of frustration to make it work.

I must have missed something in the process..

Thanks

After taking a look at your log I think your installation log, I think the installation goes without any problems. I got the same result as your video once I rebooted the device using the Advance setup menu in windows. But I could bypass that using the key combination (Power followed by few presses of Volume Up) and the boot options menu.

You guys just need downgraded BIOS - A03. Linux kernel work well on that BIOS, but there is a problem with suspend in Windows. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxGYfgaJqEH2eWxaNDJMTFhGV28/view?usp=sharing

It's a bit late. But since Feb. 2016 I have read a lot and tried even more. My problem could also be the fact that my tablet is a Dell Venue 8 Pro 3845. Maybe sb. can help me with a

step by step instruction - especial with the (if necessary) formating of the HD.

And if Remix OS does not work I am also open to any other Android version or Linux. The easier to install the better.
