Hello,

Now it is possible to DUAL BOOT Remix OS and Windows together from your Internal Hard Disk. External USB Flash Drive NOT REQUIRED.

It supports both UEFI and Legacy Bios Modes. So if you have a 64 bit computer, you can try this out.

I have tested it myself and it is working. All your Windows files will remain untouched and each time you restart your computer you can choose which OS to boot. :)

I have tried my best to explain it step by step in the easiest possible language. I also included pictures so that it becomes easy to understand.

Thanks.

this is not working.

Copied grun to the EFI/Android and the pc still boots straight into windows.

I have tried both EFI switches in the BIOS with and without CSM and no go.

Secure boot is disabled.

secure boot is disabled.

I went to Android-x86 installer on XDA and they mentioned the shift key being held during Win10 power off and I did. Under the select device Android does not show up.

alright progress!!

My BIOS is an HP Business BIOS on an HP Business EliteBook. With that I have three options for BIOS boot Legacy, EFI Hybrid and EFI Native. I had to set it to EFI Native.

Then had to use the Android-x86 installer to clean up Android and then reboot. Then restart the whole process over again.

Now I can see the Android OS boot when holding down the shift while clicking reboot from Windows 10. This boots into Remix.

But during normal boot I never see the option to select and OS the pc just boots straight into Win10. Looking for a fix because I do not want to have to boot into Windows to get to Android.

I now have it fully installed. Infact I am posing this from the OS now :)

Benchamrks Antutu and 3D Mark ran 168k Antutu and 2700 for 3D Mark.

Everything seems to be working. Installed to a HP Revolve 810 G2.
- Trackpad and touchscreen working
- sound working
- Wifi on 5Ghz but states 6meg connection speed and excellect signal, speed testing disproved the 6meg connection

Loving it so far, Minecraft working for the kiddo's to test lol
will be installing all the MS office apps to get everything up and running.
Will be installed AIDE to dev some apps for it as well.

If I have time I'll start digging around for the battery indicator and the CPU speed issue, locked on max freq.

Ok after a reboot and installing CPU-Z from the store I can see that the CPU is adjusting!!!

Right now I am on 2 hours of battery and windows reported it at 66%.

Just trying to adjust the screen brightness now as my number one priority.

Also CPU-Z reported the Accelerometer is active so trying to see why auto rotate doesn't work.

Also Maps is not working. Comes up and locks up about 10seconds later.

Cannot f
confirm the GPS on the WLAN device is present.

Worked fine on my ASUS Zenbook UX302LA with Windows 10 - except that it won't boot into the "Choose an operating system" page. I booted into it manually from Windows 10, but there's no longer an option to choose an operating system af default. However, I now have Remix OS as an boot option, which is just as good for me.

in windows download easyEFI and swap the Windows manager for Android OS. In other words move Android OS to the top and that will use Grub for your boot manager.

I now have brigntess working. Downloaded CurveFish's Brightness Leveland now can adjust the brigtness. Now I am tryign to figure out how to get widgets.

Hey, choose a bigger partition size and also choose the data size larger while installing Android via the Android x86.

You should get a larger memory.

Everything Android's files are not needed.

Simply make the HDD partion you are creating what ever size you want. I made mine 80Gb.
Then run the Android-x86 installer and point to the Android-x86 ISO(NOT REMIX OS ISO) then select the new partion you created.
Now using the slider slide it over to the right, you MUST leave 10GB free, so for me I slide it to 69.7 since that left 10GB.

Thanks a lot Nirmal. With my very low skill outside the windows box, this looks like something that I should be able to manage even if resulting in some more grey hair (have some already :-) ).
So far I have got the USB stick working with Remix OS 2.0 legacy even if I only get 4GB of my 32GB... and I seriously thinking of buying en extra simple Lenovo laptop to have dual boot with Windows 10 and Remix OS.
I think your instruction may take me to the goal or at least a good way to get it finally working.
Really love the Remix OS and look forward to getting a production version in the future...

I solve the installation problem doing install windows xp and one partition of 32GB , create  one partition for Remix OS with 23Gb and extracted the iso files, and another partition for save files.

Use easyBCD 2.2 the version 2.3 have some problems

On the EasyBCD  -> add New Entry -> niroGrub - Install

NiroGrub - config

if your partition you have extracted the iso files are the second partition use (hd0,2)

default=0
timeout=6

title Guest Mode
root (hd0,4)
kernel /kernel root=/dev/ram0 androidboot.hardware=remix_x86_64 androidboot.selinux=permissive quiet SRC= DATA= DATA_IN_MEM=1
initrd /initrd.img

title Resident Mode
root (hd0,4)
kernel /kernel root=/dev/ram0 androidboot.hardware=remix_x86_64 androidboot.selinux=permissive quiet SRC= DATA= CREATE_DATA_IMG=1
initrd /initrd.img

after install I boot the Remix OS resident mode, after his create the persistent file,

I reboot into Windows XP at Easy BCD remove the windows entry on menu

If you want only keep the remixOS use ubuntu on USB pen-drive to delete the windows partition

Hi again. I tried to follow your instruction and it seems to work until I come to the mount B: /s.
When I as next step should type B: i got Access denied :-(

I am using the only admin account I have on the computer so I assume it is not sufficient admin rights that are missing....

Reason for access denied was a pure RTFM error.
I did not run the CMD in admin mode...

So loading CMD as admin did the trick at least one more step... But not all the way.

When typing 'cd edi\Android' i get path could not be found.
So I tested 'cd D:\Android' e.g. the path to the Android folder on the new partition - and this time I got no errors.

Testing to copy the grub.cfg from the folder I have stored it by typing copy c:\remixos\grub.cfg grub.cfg and got a 'overwrite Y? and I chosed Y and that was successful.

So far so good. Now when I rebood my pc and chose the new Android in the boot meny it flicker twice on the screen and then I get a windows boot error:
File: \Android\boot\grldr.mbr    Info: The application or Opertive system couldn't be loaded because a requred file is missing or contains errors.

So now I am stuck.

To avoid confusion. I used the files from the remixos legacy zip and when I come to that step after installing the Androis OS iso but I could never find the system.sfs file, it did not exist, but all other files looks to be there.

Remix works perfectly on NTFS,you must typing the wrong command. You need to mount the efi partition for remix to boot properly. Try all the commands again :
mountvol B: /s

Then:

B:

Then

cd efi\Android

Then

copy C:\Users\YourUsername\Downloads\grub.cfg grub.cfg

Hi Ayush.

I am sure that I do something wrong, that is for sure, but after this amount of hours of try, no not a typo, I think :-)

First time I created a 30GB NTFS partition as described before.
Second time removed that partition and started from scratch.

This time I created a 23000Mb partition e.g. a bit lower than 23GB.
I formated it to FAT32 with all default parameters.
I connected the drive letter E: to it
I downloaded the latest Remix OS 64bit - legacy - ISO from Nirmal's link (Remix_OS_for_PC_64_B2016011402_Alpha_Legasy.zip
I downloaded the Android OS ISO from Nirmal's link (android-x86-5.1-rc1.iso)
I downloaded the Android installer from Nirmal's link (android_installerv12Legacy.exe
I downloaded the grub.cfg from Nirmal's link

I execued the Android installer, chose the Android OS ISO and to install to E:
During the installation I could see in the file explorer that the system.sfs file was also installed but the install tool removed it afterwards - that was the reason why I could not find and delete it in the first installation try.
I got a successfully install message

I opened a CMD prompt in Windows 10, using power tools so CMD was in administrator mode
I typed mountvol B: /s and it was accepted
I typed B: and that was accepted
I typed cd efi\Android and path coult not be found :-(
I typed E: and and it was changed from B: to E:
I typed cd Android and it was accepted.
I typed copy c:\remixos\grub.cfg grub.cfg and it was accepted (and the file was copied to that folder too.

but then I got same error messages as before....

Let's see what I can found out, because I have to low skill level for this even if I have successfully got RemixOS up and running on my USB stick.....

Now I have done some more small investigation.

I am as witten above able to type mountvol B: /s
I am able to type B:

Now I tested to do a dir in the B: and I found a folder EFI so I did type cd EFI
Now I did dir and there are 3 folders:
Microsoft
Boot
OEM

No Android :-(

I have of course a Android folder on my E: e.g. the partition that I have created and installed in.

Now I think I am out of ideas :-(

You know how it is, if you are pretty sure it is your own skill level more than technical issues, it hard to give up so I did spend couple of more hours yesterday:

I formated my Fat32 so it was clean and did a new test because I figured out that my laptop had UEFI support and the UEFI enabled in BIOS. So instead of using the Legacy files I wanted to try the UEFI ones.

So with fresh FAT32 partition on 23000mb (almost 23GB) and started the android os installer for UEFI and the Android OS ISO (not the remix).
After a while a got errors and locked in the error log. I have chosen a 18GB image file on the installer and now the disk was full and the installation program reverted (cleaned files in the folder).
So I started from scratch again, not with a 30GB NTFS partition because some say this should work on NTFS as well as FAT.
My guess, what that may be worth, is that the limitation on 23GB are the image that are created in the partition, not the partition it self - but I can of course be wrong.

This time the installation were successful e.g. I got a Installation OK message.
This time there was a system.sfs file in the AndroidOS folder to delete as described in the instruction. That file was missing in the Legacy installation.
I was also able to copy the 4 files described in the installation from the RemixOS UEFI ISO to the AndroidOS folder.

Then I again tested to run mountvol B: /s CMD as Admin and it worked fine.
Also to change to B: was successful and this time there was a Android folder under EFI.
So standing in B:\EFI\Android I did the grub.cfg copy and that was also successful.

Maybe I was naive but I thought that - this time it going to work.
But it did not :-(

What happen this time is that I have lost the Windows boot manager, it don't matter what I do, instead windows are loaded directly.
That is strange because with the legacy installation I at least got the windows boot mgr up and could chose between Win10 and Android.
At that time it was time to go to bed and because I am at work now I have to continue tonight when home again.

What is things in my head now
Wonder if the 30GB NTFS was a mistake. Maybe I should go back to FAT32 at 23GB and chose a smaller image file for example 10GB for a start.
Wonder if the grub.cfg have to be manual edited to some extent or if copying it to EFI\Android have failed anyway even if I don't got any errors. I was to tired to investigate that yesterday, I should try to look at it tonight.

I have stop counting the hours spend to get this working for me and every time I was giving up, some more ideas pop up in my head and I am back testing.

This is the situation right now.

I have tried all possible way to install the legacy ISO's without success and I have tried all kind of partition size and format.
I have tried all possible way to install the EFI version of the ISO and the only result is that I have learned a lot but because my skill level are low from scratch it does not say so much.

Lets say at least that I am able to make a 'successful' installation of the EFI RemixOS, based on the documentation but it refuse to booth.

This is what I think are the reason.

I try to install on a Acer Aspire One and with Windows 10 installed.
I have around 39GB free disk space available that I use for the Partition/volume and I have tested FAT32/NTFS and tested with full size or a decreased partition e.g. under 23GB.
I am not pretty sure that the Secure Boot is what stopping me all the time.
Bion on this laptop can't disable Secure boot and keet the UEFI. My only option on bios are to chose UEFI (bios say Secure boot enabled) or Legacy (bios say Secure boot disabled).
Problem is if I chose the Legacy mood, I can't boot my Windows 10.
I assume disk partition are created and configured to use UEFI and need some hands on to make it boot-able in legacy mode.
But that goes over my skill level and it looks like I have to lay down this project or buy me a new PC with a more supporting bios...

My gut feeling tell me that I am more or less done, successfully done with the installation but the bios problem totally stop me.

The good thing is that I have my USB stick loaded with RemixOS that works perfect, but I can only boot that on my Lenovo Thinkpad (my work computer).

I thinking of getting my a life instead of this...

Special thanks to Ayush that have giving advice both here and by mail. It have not solved my problem but raised my skill and understanding av bit.

So finally I have a perfect RemixOS up and running since yesterday.
Most of the problem have been caused by my self based on my lack of skill, I think.
Without support from Ayush I should never make it and he deserv all cred for that, thanks

However I have now on my Acer Aspire One Laptop a NTFS Partition at 31,5GB. I have on that partition of 26,5 GB that works perfect.
I have tried to follow Nirmal's excellent description point to point but on my bios I was not able to turn off the secure boot even if I thought so.

So all my errors was depending on getting the secure boot of. I was not able to find any info on the net about the specific bios but Ayush did...

Now, when secure boot are disabled I was able to install the RemixOS EFI Android.
With secure boot turned of I was able to change boot order so I have put the Android partition as primary boot and windows as secondary.
That means that I get the GRUB menu comming up upon restart so I don't have to first start Windows and then reboot with shift pressed.

I am pretty sure that Nirmal's guide have need of some corrections regarding the legacy part. The part of Mountvol B: /s are not fully working on the legacy part because the legacy installation does not create a Android folder under EFI and I was never able to get that working.
With secure boot turned on, I was able to fully follow the UEFI installation and are happy as a child.

I have a perfect working Android on my Acer laptop using the EFI installation.

Now I try to make a similar installation on my Lenovo Thinkpad T430.
The Thinkpad supports UEFI but it is preloaded from my work with a Windows 7 in legacy mode and I have upgrade it to Windows 10.
Trying several way to install the Android on a 32GB NTFS partition but when using the EFI installation the Android X86 EFI installer say 'Securie boot not supported' and it greyed out.

Going into the BIOS and on Security part Secure boot are disabled
On startup part it is set to both UEFI and Legacy.

Have tried to change to 'legacy only' running the Android x86 legacy installer and it looks like it works fine and I got a successfully installed.

Then I am stuck on the installation description from Nirmal.
The instruction that should support both EFI and Lecay does not work for me.

The delete system.sfs can't be followed because he sfs-file does not exist in the legacy installation

mountvol B: /s is not recognized in the CMD-administrator windows and that looks logical because no UEFI are used on Windows 10.

Trying to copy the 4 files from the latest RemixOS image (legacy) to the Android folder in the NTFS partition.

After reboot I got the boot meny that allow me to start Windows or Android
When choosing the Android I come to the B/W menu were I can chose Android or Android debug mode.
Choosing Android and it looks like it finds the NTFS partition and start loading.
I get the normal ANDROID text in the black window and after a while it restart - and I come back to the Windows based boot menu.

I assume that the Nirmal installation guide are not fully working on Legacy, at least with my low skill level were I have to trust what I read.

I really want to get this installation working because I want to use the RemixOS on this machine instead of my Acer laptop that is always occupied by my wife (can't live with them, can't live without them).

I guess half of you guys (probably more) out there understand this much more than me and I hope some can advice me so I can come further.

I solved my problem described above by buying me a new Win10 license so I was not forced to use the preloaded Win from work. By that I could set the bios to fully use UEFI and I installed WIN10.
After that I was able to make the RemixOS EFI Alpha installation with success.
So from my point of view the problem are solved but I did never get the legacy installation to work :-(
