Hi All,

Very excited to have a go with this, but I don't have a USB 3.0 stick.

Therefore I decided to do the next best thing and try to install it on my SSD running windows with Virtualbox as a means of partitioning.

However, when I select either option, it just freezes.

Same thing near enough happens when I let the timer count down. It just stops at 1 second.

I've just tried a box standard "Other" client on Virtualbox, and the installation screen appears quickly, but this doesn't action anything.

Has anyone managed to get this working on Virtualbox?

I have it working on VirtualBox, you need to run it in a 64-bit VM. These are my settings:

Thanks Matt,

I just now figured that out and was about to post that when you beat me to it.

I used a 64 bit Linux 2.6 as per what the Android x86 project: http://www.android-x86.org/documents/virtualboxhowto

But on your screenshot, it says you have OS windows ?

I created Hyper-V machine (that I suppose has 64bit since my host is 64bit) and triggered install of RemixOS from the image downloaded. I get to choose if I want to use RemixOS as a one-off or save session, and either option just leaves me with "ANDROID _" and thats it.

got my timer started counting down... staring at the Remix OS logo flashing....

I went for a regular installation. It's been about 10 minutes for me, and I got a step further, and see the Remix OS logo fading in and out. I guess it's doing something!

I left mine trying to boot for the 15minutes, no activity on the drives.

Just started over, selected Guest mode, booted in 3 minutes flat.

Yes, I've found the same.

My biggest issue (not sure if it's VirtualBox or Remix), is that my cursor doesn't move unless I'm holding left click. Anybody finding that as well?

I also had this issue, but figured out a fix.

Make sure that when you select Other in VirtualBox, that you select Other (64-bit). That did the trick for me! Hope it helps!

I've got some screenshots, vids, etc to show how I accomplished installing Remix OS to a hard drive within Virtual Box.

I'm still working on compiling all the information into that one resource.

I managed to do so by creating / modifying partitions so that it wasn't just empty, and I'm finally in!

For VirtualBox, choose Oracle (64 bits) or other (64 bits), select iso and start

Okay, I'll do what I can here:

  1. Click "New in VirtualBox"
  2. Enter a name, type is Linux, Version Linux 2.6 (64 bit) - Ubuntu also seems fine, as long as it's 64 bit.
  3. Allocate the RAM, HD (I did 2GB RAM, and 18GB HD)
  4. Power up the VM
  5. Select the ISO
  6. When the Guest/Resident screen appears, hit tab, and after the "androidboot.hardwared=android" txt, enter INSTALL=1
  7. This brings up a screen where you select the partition. I had to create / modify my partition (selected no on the prompt to use another format), and set it to be a full Linux partition rather than empty. Otherwise, I kept getting stuck at the next step:
  8. Select "Yes" to the GRUB install
  9. Skip the GRUB EPT
  10. This should display a loading bar. Once it's done, run Android x86.
This worked for me. I needed to turn off mouse integration on Virtualbox in order to click around easily.

When I shut the machine down, I had to make sure I wasn't booting from the iso again. Once I did that, it booted correctly.

Now I'm just trying to work out the Google Play Services!

I finally got this working on VB, but it was far from correct or easy to use installation instructions. Yep, I did select Windows-10 (64bit). After all, the iso is for a "PC", which most people interpret as windows.

The steps seem to require all the old-school partitioning + bootflag and grub installs. This is rather dumb IMHO, as there is absolutely no need to do this ever, on a FAT32 disk. FAT32!? Why should the user even be bothered with this?

What are the other settings?
- Sound?
-

As usual there are few other things to keep in mind.
- Turn off the privacy invading automatic JIDE feedback (Security >> "User Experience Program") and GPS/location
- Under "Security" turn on unknown sources

There is a black character sized box with a cursor blinking, in the middle of my screen! WTF is that?

Okay I just used your settings, created a full linux partition. When I try to format ext4/3 it stays at 0% forever. So I tried fat32 and it instantly went to the install grub option. Okay to grub no to grub2 efi wrote ~220MB of data then I chose to write a 512 (default) data.img now I have the blue background of the PE with a black bar and cursor (not blinking) and nothing is happening. If I reboot from there, unmounting the install image, it VBox says no bootable media (yes I made sure to flag the partition as bootable) Any suggestions?

Someone should get resident mode running on virtual box and upload the VB harddrive file.  I'd do it if I could, but I've had all sorts of trouble with this.

I might try that. On my home PC, I'll set a dynamically allocated spaced drive and (having been successful earlier on my work PC) go through it all again. Any preference as to where to upload it?

I do get that stupid black box with the blinking cursor, but sounds like it's what most people get on virtualbox.

I could host it, but I would prefer if someone can figure out how to run it on Hyper-V. Problem is that once you using Hyper-V you cannot use VB, so kinda stuck

Here we are!

For a limited time only!

Here's a link to my Virtualbox disk with Remix OS installed.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/6oii6n7v4rro1s0/Remix%20OS.vdi?dl=0 (At time of typing, this is uploading a hefty 2GB disk so may be pending).

Be aware I've literally installed, booted, then re-booted to ensure it's all working. Let me know if it doesn't work.

All you should theoretically need to do is create the base VM, select the RAM, and then use this existing disk.

That Dropbox link should now be live. Took a little over 2 hours, but not bad for 1GB per hour upload I guess!

I'll probably take it back down after a good several days.

Hope it helps!

Glad it worked for you! I've just tested this myself to ensure it works, and it does!

After downloading my virtualbox disk from https://www.dropbox.com/s/6oii6n7v4rro1s0/Remix%20OS.vdi?dl=0

The steps are now:

1. Create a new Box
2: Select Linux, Linux 2.6 64 bit (Ubuntu 64 will work fine too, and probably most of the 64 bit ones will)
3: Select the amount of RAM
4: "Use existing Hard Disk" - Choose the vdi file in the link above
5: Start Box! :)

Create a disk say 20gb.
Select Resident Mode hit tab add INSTALL=1
Create 2 partitions 10gb + 10gb, make the first one bootable
Install Grub and not Grub EFI.
That worked for me for both KVM and VirtualBox.

Unable to install or run. Initially tried to run in Virtualbox5.0, and then complete with flash disk, but the result was the same. The same thing happened and my friend. The video capture process at the link below. Please help to deal with this problem
