to Remix OS for PC

I was using Remix OS lately and its a great experience. But the trouble i am having is files. I have some music files (mp3) on my hard disk and some apks as well that i want to install manually but for doing this i have to take lot of trouble of first uploading it to my drive from windows and then downloading it again in Remix OS. So is there any way i can manually transfer the files from my windows directory to remix os's directory and visa versa.

Thanks

You can add your Windows data partition to grub2 Remix OS option by adding 'SDCARD=/dev/sda2' (assuming that your Windows data partition is on first HDD and second partition. If your Windows data partition is on third partition, then it is /dev/sda3 and so on). You can add this option after 'CREATE_DATA_IMG=1' or something like that.

With this option, your Windows data partition will automatically mounted at Remix OS boot, so you don't have to transfer your data from one partition to another. Just open them from where they are.

Ok, I assume you are using Windows. Boot to Windows, then find a file 'menu.lst' inside 'RemixOS' folder where you install the OS at. Open that 'menu.lst' with Notepad or whatever teks editor you have, find 'CREATE_DATA_IMG=1', then add 'SDCARD=/dev/sda3' (I hope your data in the 3rd partition. Because 1st partition would be Windows bootloader, 2nd partition is your Windows system. If it is the wrong place, you can reedit the 'menu.lst' to /dev/sda2 or /dev/sda4 until you find the right one). So, it will be 'CREATE_DATA_IMG=1 SDCARD=/dev/sda3' (don't forget a space between them). Save the file, then boot to your Remix OS. Open Remix OS file manager, you will find your Windows partition at sidebar, below 'My Remix', above 'Setting'.

Remember, don't klik 'Format' on file manager setting, or your Windows data partition will get formatted. ;)

I just tested installing Windows 10 in VirtualBox using UEFI, Windows system installed on 4th partition (/dev/sda4). So, if your Windows using UEFI, your data partition maybe on /dev/sda5. Try it one by one. ;)

Out of caution I wouldn't want Remix OS reading or writing to a Windows partition. I'm currently running on a very small form factor Samsung USB3.0 flash drive in Resident Mode and can use a folder there to share between Remix and Windows. Another option I am looking at and this will fix a number of other file sharing issues I have, is to use a 'Travel WiFi router' from HooToo that allows for SMB/DLNA file sharing of a USB connected device. I can then jump between Laptop / Android Tablet / Android TV Streamer and still have a similar file access environment.

If you want to know what sda* number you should choose for 'SDCARD=/dev/sda3* ' using windows just follow the steps :-

1 : Open command prompt as admin ( ctrl+x > choose command prompt (admin) from menu ).
2 : Type ' diskpart ' and hit enter.
3 : Now you'll be inside windows Diskpart program. Now type ' list disk ' and hit enter.
4 : you'll see all the disks on your computer/laptop listed. now type ' select disk * ' (replace the * with the number of your disk and remember to put a space between disk and number).
5 : Now type ' list partition ' and hit enter . you'll see the list of partitions on your hard drive. now look for the partition you want as your sdcard for remix os.
6 : Use the partition number of your partition in sda part of line ' SDCARD=/dev/sda3* ' (replace * with your desired partition number).

That's it.
enjoy :')

The easiest way is to see it on Linux, since this is Linux stuff. ;)

In my Windows 7 and Remix OS dual boot system, I can see windows(ntfs) partitions and ready/write files when in Remix OS. But how can I read/write files form Remix OS when in windows?

menu.lst does not exist (i'm guessing this has been changed so how do you do this now)

Well I guess the issue is resolved. There is HDD support natively embedded in new remix so we can access files across multiple partitions.
