Note this only works if your filesystem supports the file size. FAT32 has a max file size of 4GB. My Remix partition is NTFS so it worked.

mke2fs.exe work with .img file

example

"format data.img"

-F = format 

-t = type

mke2fs.exe -F -t ext4 data.img

When I did it the uefi version want it but I added an entry in my Ubuntu grub for it and it works great. For me it preserved the data. All I had tho was a play services installer downloaded so it wasn't much of a test but it did stay after resize.

Also I don't believe it would change the drive that you are using because if you use it correctly it changes the file system inside the image. The partition may be fat32 but the image is that of an ext2 filesystem.

I am trying this on a partition created by the 3/1 beta and I get an error. I was trying to resize the default 8G data.img to 16G on an NTFS partition that has over 200G free. I am not sure if I will really need more than 8G if I can make my drive visible (another thread makes that appear to be likely).
