It looks like it came with root already, but it is not working correctly... Enable it in Developer Options

When I tried to root again using SuperSU, it broke the root that Jide has in there already, so this method might not work.

I can't understand how remix os is prerooted. There is no supersu app in app menu.
On the other hand, rooting wia ubuntu method is worked for me. I successfuly rooted my remixos and didnt see any warning "remix os is already rooted"

You don't need a SuperSU app to be prerooted or rooted at all.

All you need is a su binary in system somewhere; that being said this su is/was probably there for some other reason - maybe the OTA dynamic or something, and doesn't seem to be able to be called in terminal (and I guess apps but didn't try).

SuperSU is just a go between showing which apps have accessed or tried to access the su binary, without the ap typically anything that asks for su just gets permission automatically (depending on binary and app I guess).

Yes, i know what supersu app is. But while androidx86 comes with its own superuser app, why remix os doesn't?
It's rubbish if it is prerooted. Because i tried some apps that need su permissions and i didn't see any warning or dialogue box regarding that. Naturally it didn't work as expected. For example; x-plore file manager. It couldn't show me the root files.

Just thought I'd clarify on SuperSu with that post.

Are you sure Ax86 comes prerooted as 'stock'/ generic build afaik Ax86 trybto stay as close to aosp as possible, so prerooting wouldn't make much sense outside of test-builds.

In this case with RemixOS I'd say they chose to leave it esentially unrooted (with perhaps access to a su via a second binary), is primarily due to how they plan to run OTAs, but I guess we'll have to wait to see an OTA.zip

I'm a veteran androidx86 user from 4.2 to now. I tried dozens of builds including test, rc and final builds. most of them were prerooted and came/come with superuser app (by clockworkmod)

He's trying to help you. But, since you're a "veteran", go help yourself.

same way as the alpha
Download and Extract RemixRoot.zip
......mount the beta iso using isomaster or other (zip/iso tool) and replace the system.img with the rooted version, though the RemixRoot.zip contains the old SU 2.46, just replace the apk with the newer version
Then use the iso with unetbootin to put on a pendrive to start INSTALL=1

I know Windows inside and out but only sort of know my way around in Linux and Android. Anyway, I installed the 32 bit beta by unpacking the ZIP and then running the install tool in the folder for Windows. Boot menu allowed me to choose Remix which came right up. I have installed a few things that need root, including the root features in X-Plore. I get a pop up that is sort of like the UAC pop up in Windows asking if I am sure I want to grant super user and then it works. I did nothing to enable it; it just came that way. Maybe 32 bit config is different than 64.

OK, adding some other apps and I think I am seeing the trouble. It seems like I have root/super user but things others say are working are failing and one app kept getting a alert message that it was being granted super user over and over. No success yet in getting Remix to be able to access the full hard drive (which is wha I am trying to do).

peter 1991, you need the initrd.img edited, otherwise it makes system.img read-only so SuperSu can't update. Grab one from here, or alternatively the system.img too in case you did something wrong

Andy, you might be able to get root privileges by going into About, and tapping build number until you are developer, then under developer option, enable root for both options (i forget what they are but it allows you to pick either, or both). Once that is done, you may be able to install SuperSU, and update it, and use the OS rooted like the other methods explained here.

Hello everyone,

I have been working on Remix OS (testing) with an Acer Aspire R 11, and with the most recent release, I was finally able to launch the OS. The issue that I am having currently is with WiFi. I have a proposed fix that I want to test so I can share it, but I need to root the OS to impliment the fix.

Here is the problem: with the recent installation of Remix OS, It partitions the USB drive into 3 sections (Fat32). As such, only the first section shows accessible to Windows. The system files that I would need to change for root access, are on the second section, and isn't accessible with file explorer.

(Posting clip from Disk Management)

Is there a way to remedy this situation?

Thanks in advance for the assistance

Can someone please explain whether remix os is prerooted or not, and if it is why can I not use LeDPI changer. (In developer options it does say root access).

It is not rooted. If you want to root then go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/remix/remix-os/systemless-root-simple-t3374469 and perform root by following these directions
