Hi there! I've been following the Remix OS project for a long time, but always used it in guest mode. The thing is, i recently fixed a Asus EEEpc 1005HA and i want it to run remix os as the main and only operating system, without having to insert a usb flash drive. How can i do this? Install Remix OS on the HDD and booting it from the HDD instead of using a usb drive? Any ideas?

Boot from USB, at the bootloader choose the first option (residental mode), press TAB and delete from the end of the line back to the word "quiet" and add there "INSTALL=1" and press ENTER. Then follow the text installer, format the target partition on your harddisk with ext4 filesystem and install the system partition read-write. Don't forget to install GRUB. After installation reboot and remove the bootable USB drive and boot from harddisk.

You delete everything AFTER the word "quiet". Leave a space and add "INSTALL=1", then press ENTER to boot.

doesnt work =\ i install GRUB and it says it found a windows partition and if i'd like to create an item for that. i chose yes, said no to EFI boot (since the laptop doesnt support EFI), and checked yes on the R/W question. still, no boot.

No boot means what? GRUB error? Or no gui after loading the kernel?

i thought it had someting to do with the 100MB boot partition that windows creates, but no luck, the disk has only 1 partition, no other were found. Any ideas?

Just reformat the hdd. Delete all partitions and create one partition and format it with ext4.

Then rerun the installer as shown.

I did four installations onto hdds, empty or not. No problems so far.

Tried that, still the same. Mounted on a dock station, it only has 1 partition. Used linux live cd to check again, only 1 partition was found..it's really weird =\

Which program did you use to check the partitions? gparted? Did you delete the partition table and create a new one? There could be a hidden partition ...

This is the only thing that finally worked for me after SO many attempts using other methods.  A key for me was using the first option for GRUB and NOT the second with my Windows 7 era tower.  Thanks!

Thank you for this! I was finally able to get it installed on my second hard drive. Now to mess with it this morning for I can get past the boot logo.

That seems to be a labeling dispute between Linux and Android. Grub2 in Android means the version that installs into UEFI areas. In Linux it's just an updated Grub version. It shouldn't offer both.

Another issue is that Linux supports the GPT partition table and Android does not without massive work and compatible hardware.

Use this tutorial to install Remix OS on your Hard drive instead of usb drive- http://www.hellpc.net/blog/2016/09/09/how-to-install-remix-os-3-0-on-your-pc-with-windows-10/

Aslam, are you trolling, click baiting, or not paying attention? The link you posted is about dual booting and in no way related to the topic at hand.

This is exactly what I had to do as well.  Install the first GRUB option and choose Skip for GRUB2 installation.  Follow previous directions and all set.

I have spent around 2 full days to get Remix OS to successfully install on my old laptop, still no luck :(. I have set INSTALL=1 and deleted everything past quiet as indicated in this thread and also formatted the HDD to ext4. After everything is done, I reboot and take out the USB and it says "No bootable devices--strick F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility".

I have tried formatting in NTFS, FAT32 also with the same results. I have a single partition of about 100GB.

Unless someone has any other ideas, I am ready to quit at this point. Please help!

Does install=1 or =2 refer to the partition? If I want to install let's say to the 4th partition it should be INSTALL=4 ??

Guys I followed this process, just look at the pictures if you cant understand the language, the pictures alone explains it all. You follow this and you will be up and running like I am, just finished installing it and working great. Make sure when you do the INSTALL=1 command just add it to the end don't delete anything in front of it.

You're a lifesaver! It worked. It will ask a series of questions: first it will ask what partition you want to install to. Next it will ask filesystem, select ext4. Then it will ask if you want to install GRUB. Select yes. Next it will ask if you want EFI Grub, SELECT NO. From there, everything is pretty simple and it worked flawlessly.

Don't delete any text. Just add INSTALL=1 to the end. Then it will bring up a bunch of menus, asking which partition you want, pick on and select ext4 on the next screen, and so on. Also, it will ask if you want to install GRUB. Select yes. Then it will ask if you want EFI GRUB. SELECT NO. I finally just got it working with this method.

I'm also having the same issues as everyone here. Followed all of these steps and still get the "No boot device found" message.I'm using an old Dell Vostro 200 that I want to restore. If anyone in this thread has found a solution to this or if this thread is still active, I'd appreciate the help.

I think it will ultimately have something to do with the boot loader, not sure yet. Im still troubleshooting.

Well now I'm discovering that this particular machine isn't accepting any OS I try and put on it -_- After Remix, I tried Kali Linux, then Windows 7, and Remix was the only one that booted from the USB.

SO I FINALLY SOLVED IT!!!

The particular machine I was running needed a new hard drive. After getting the hard drive, it would still boot from USB but not from the HDD. A buddy of mine did some digging around and told me that the motherboard on this particular machine did NOT support UEFI boot. The 32-bit version of Remix also does NOT support UEFI. The way I fixed it was by installing Windows 7 on this old machine I was trying to restore, followed by legacy booting Remix OS. Now granted, Remix is not the single operating system on this machine like I originally wanted it to be, but it will at least now boot up from the hard drive in resident mode. Hope this helps anyone who was having similar problems. Feel free to PM me if anyone would like me to explain more in-depth how to do this. :)
