Hello guys,

I managed to install remix os 64bit uefi on a USB device using rmxinstaller from xda forum and get it to boot on my asus vivotab note 8 with an atom bay trail z3740

right now the problems I have encountered are:

no bluetooth, no sound ,no  stylus, huge battery drain,no sensors, led indicator near front facing camera is always on and the worst is that the device seems to be locked in portrait mode

is there any way to change screen orientation? is there any terminal command to do it? key shortcuts don't work ...
is there any way to change dpi density? and about the stylus i know that samsung uses the same tecnology with some android devices so is there any way i can get it to work?

outside from those problems the OS seems to run very fast, the device is well recognized right by the OS, i can see youtube just fine from what i tried (no sound), with apps it is a bit of a lucky shot, since the device is locked in portrait the only that run are the ones that support portrait mode, other apps or games either dont work or just show part of the screen(when runned on fullscreen).

I installed Remix os 32 bit beta on the same device. Stylus works, but the other issues are confirmed. Remix still is not updated on my tablet with last release. Works pretty well.

what drivers? u must be confused... asus only have drivers for windows ....
alexander u mean the 32bit legacy version right? did u make anything to make the stylus to work? can u please link me the iso of the remix version u tried? how did u installed remix?

it is a bit strange that for u the stylus work with the 32bit version and dont work for me with 64bit

Right, 32 bit legacy downloaded from jide.com. I didn't make anything to push the stylus to work. At the beginning I booted from USB and stylus was working straight from the box. Then I installed Remix on HDD (you have to correct path to bootloader bootia32.efi, because linked to bootxia32.efi or something like that, that there is not in image at all).
Just download 32 bit image and try to boot from USB. I think images are different. We have x64-based CPU, but BIOS 32 bit and even Windows also 32 bit.

I just finished installing remix_OS_for_PC_64_B2016030106.iso onto my Asus Vivotab 8 (M81C), Bluetooth/sensors/gps are not working. Sound works very well, but like yours my touchscreen is locked in portrait mode. Currently try to find drivers for it, lspci | grep VGA returns nothing, and lspci returns:

00:00.0 Class 0600: 8086:0f00
00:02.0 Class 0300: 8086:0f31
00:14.0 Class 0c03: 8086:0f35
00:1a.0 Class 1080: 8086:0f18
00:1f.0 Class 0601: 8086:0f1c

If I figure something out I'll post it here too.

  1. i wasnt able so far to find any solution, i wanna try to install phoenix os to try if something changes. with phoenix os there are key shortcuts to change some stuff so maybe rotation will work. but as there is no iso i cant try it with rmxinstaller. if jiide implement key shortcuts into the kernel it would be much easier,at least to change rotation

Actually, I have the screen issues except 1 fixed. However, Unjust returned home so I'll take a few minutes to settle in and get satiated and then I'll post the steps I took to fix rotation/brightness/launcher/and wallpaper.

Ok, so first let me correct the Iphones auto-incorrects.. unjust was supposed to be "I just" & sataited = "situated".

There are some caveats to this.
1: Auto-rotation is off by 90° (find the rotation you want and then lock it with the notifications bar)
2: Sleep mode isn't sleep... it powers the screen off, but then it comes back on really dim (you still have to hit power button to wake it though.. go figure)
3: As with any mod, You do this of your own accord. I am not responsible should anything go wrong.
4: I didn't come up with any of this, I simply found it and used it ;o) all credit to those people I named, and not me.

Installing Remix OS (Thx ExtremeGTX and imadlatch
1: So, the first thing I did was recovered my table to new condition. (Note I wiped my Asus recovery partition doing this so be very careful what you choose in windows recovery options).
Once windows 10 was all loaded back up I downloaded the Android-x86 Installer UEFI from XDA, while you are there jump over to the RMXTools thread and download both the RMXtools V1.5 and the initrdx64-fix.zip files.

2: Now, visit Remix OS for PC's site and download the 64bit version (torrent is fine, just check the md5).

3: Install Remix OS with the uefi installer (it's a 3 click install). Note* Windows defender is reporting it as malware so if you want to use it put it into a folder with the iso's and add an exception to windows defender or it will screw the whole install up and potentially the tablet)
Virustotals scan of the file

4: Once it's installed boot it up just to get everything setup and into the "desktop". Once you have reached the desktop, reboot it again and go back to windows.

5: once back into Windows, start up the RMXTool. Click the top right "Browse" button and select your "system.img" file in X:\androidOS (X is the drive you chose to install to. IE C:\AndroidOS).

6: Now click the second button from the top right to extract the system.img file. This takes awhile unless you are on an SSD so be patient.

7: Now that it's extracted you will find a system_ folder in the AndroidOS directory. Now click the "Root-64" button and select the system_ folder that was just created.

8: It's now rooted, so let's repack it by clicking the "Repack" button (bottom right). *Again, this might take awhile depending on your system. I personally just xfer'd the system.img to the sdcard and did all this on my desktop because it's SSD and I7 Intel.

9: You will now have a "Repacked.img" rename it to system.img and copy it back to the AndroidOS directory replacing the existing one. (or deleting the existing one and then rename Repack.img if you do this on the tablet.)

10: Replace/delete the original initrd.img file with the one you downloaded in step 1.

11: Reboot into Remix OS and find SuperSU in the programs menu. Once it's opened update it using the "normal" update method (Might have to update it twice). Now reboot Remix again.

Enable Google Play Services( Thx You_ks & SubredditReddit)
12: Now to get google play and services going, open terminal type "su" hit enter. Now follow this guide (*note the only ones I didn't enable were:
com.google.android.partnersetup
com.google.android.feedback
and
com.google.android.backuptransport (I don't use googles backup service. if you do, maybe enable this one...)
Now exit terminal by typing "exit" and hitting enter twice. Reboot Remix again. (I always reboot after every change, however you maybe able to complete the next step BEFORE rebooting. I'm not really sure)

13: Once booted back up, click on settings and choose applications (third row, far right), find google play store/services/and framework force stop them and clear their data. Reboot (man if I had $1 for every reboot.......)

These next steps are only for getting a different launcher. I tested Nova launcher and it worked, I don't know about any others. ( Thx lollyjay)
14: Open google play and update anything that needs it (IE mx player, SuperSU), Find your launcher of choice and install it. Now tap the O button on the "taskbar" and a window will ask which launcher to use. Select the launcher you downloaded. (*Note nothing will happen, it will say 3rd party launchers aren't supported)

15: Open terminal, and SU again. Now type these commands (this is the CLI way to freeze apps)
pm disable com.jide.filelauncher
pm disable com.android.launcher3
at this point your launcher should take over. if not, tap the O again. Exit terminal.

fixing(-ish) auto-rotation ( Thx HypoTurtle)
16: in the play store find and download Root Browser. Once installed open it and give it root permission for 15 minutes. Open the system directory, and then open the build.prop file with RB Text Editor. At the bottom of the file change
ro.remix.box=true to false
and
ro.remix.no_wallpaper=true to false.

Bugs still to fix:
Headphone jack does not shut off speakers
Sleep mode not really asleep
rotation 90° off
taskbar removal
