Hi,
Im an student who is looking to develop an application to learn
guitar. I would like to know if I can use this API to detect the BPM
since Im planing to compare what is played by the guitarist with an
metronome. Im a very beginner to this API.

The API allows you to retrieve tempo values and beat locations. But
you could just use pyechonest if all you need is information on songs,
and you don't need to manipulate the content. http://code.google.com/p/pyechonest/
