I run Reminder Fox in both Firefox and Thunderbird. Normally this works fine, with changes made in one app showing up in the other. But today I refreshed Firefox (because it was taking a long time to open), which creates a new profile. I copied my Reminder Fox data folder over into the new profile and reinstalled the extension in Firefox. It works fine there, but now Reminder Fox in Thunderbird can't find the data. I've tried resetting the location in the Thunderbird extension, but it won't take -- it keeps reverting to the old, dead Firefox profile. Any ideas?

Hi!

No ideas straight away, though I will try and test this on a test system.

In the meantime, to make the developers job easier, could you please paste the following information in a reply to this email:
ReminderFox  [2.1.5.4]   release    <'20160102_1100'>
  Profile directory: E:\Data\Profiles\Thunderbird\Paul - default
  Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/38.5.0 (en-GB)
You can get this information if you open the About window for ReminderFox (right click on the Foxy icon, and select About ReminderFox) - this automatically copies this information.  Then, come to the reply to this email and select paste (e.g. Ctrl + V).  In your case, could we please have the information from ReminderFox in Firefox and Thunderbird.

Thanks

Paul

Hi!

Unfortunately I wasn't able to reproduce the problem, so I can't offer
any thoughts.

Get back to us with your system information and hopefully the developers
will have some thoughts.

Hi,

as prompted yesterday with my mobile, please have a look at the
documentation:
http://www.reminderfox.org/documentation-user-guide-sharing-reminders/

As Colin asked with his first response, please send your both (FX & TB)
installation strings. That way we have a little better chance to help you.

From Firefox: ReminderFox  [2.1.5.4]   release    <'20160102_1100'>
  Profile directory: C:\Users\Michael\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\3ixp2u9i.default-1453578620431

  Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/38.5.1 (en-US)

Thanks. FYI, the profile directory for Thunderbird listed above does not match the profile directory in the options for Reminder Fox in Thunderbird.

OK, so what has the RmFX Options dialog on the first tab

If the "Use Default location" is enabled, disable it and copy the content of the box.
Do it with FX and TB and post both with a reply.

From Thunderbird: C:\Users\Michael\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\i4v5xrjw.default\reminderfox\reminderfox.ics

The address from Thunderbird points to my old Firefox profile, before the refresh. I have tried repeatedly to point it to new location, but it won't take. When I click Apply or Okay, nothing happens.

In Thunderbird please try to point to a location outside of the profile
folders. For that you can use an existing folder or a new defined one.
Start with no ics file in that folder. Reminderfox will build a file
"reminderfox.ics".

If that works you see an empty Reminderfox main list/dialog, then open
theTB/RmFX Options again and import from the FX/RmFX ics file location.
Now you should have the same reminders as with FX/RmFx in TB/RmFx.

To have access from both (FX & TB) you need to point the FX/RmFX
instance to the same location.

I can't find any way to point RmFx to an empty folder. It wants to be pointed to an ics file. Can I copy the contents of the RmFx folder in the Firefox profile to the new folder and then point both RmFx in both FX and TB to the ics file copied to the new folder?

Sorry, my fault :-D . Yes you need to have the file there if you use the
[Browse] key.

Two possibilities here:
1. with [Browse] you have a ICS file location available .. because you
copied an ICS file to that directory already .. or ..
2. edit the box content manually; you need to have a valid directory and
can choose a new file name; RmFX will build that for you.

or as you asked below ...

Yes, you could go that way also.

Created a ReminderFox folder in Program Data, then copied to it the contents of the ReminderFox folder in my Firefox profile. Browsed to it and attempted to point Thunderbird's ReminderFox to it. No change: Clicking Apply or OK has no effect. Exit out and come back, and the box has reverted to the defunct Firefox profile directory.

Hi!

I haven't tested this (since I can't reproduce the problem), but the following might work if nothing else does.

1.  Remove ReminderFox from Thunderbird.
2.  Go to the Thunderbird Options, Advanced, General tab.
3.  Click on the <Config Editor...> button in the bottom right corner.
4.  Taking great care, search for extensions.reminderFox.storeFile.
5.  Still taking great care, delete extensions.reminderFox.storeFile.
6.  Reinstall ReminderFox.
7.  Set up the link to the Firefox reminderfox.ics file.

You should probably see if Günter thinks that this is a good idea before proceeding.

Paul's recommendation makes sense -- see below ...

Another point, I would _not_ choose the "folder in Program Data" but a
place where an access limitation could be defined. Selecting a folder
where you typically have access to could be the better choice (like
"Documents").

Okay. There was no option to delete it, but I could modify it. So I changed the profile name there, reinstalled ReminderFox, and all now seems well. Thanks much!
