Can anyone solve this curious problem:
Reminderfox 2.1.6.3
Thunderbird 60.3.0
Windows 10
At 11 Nov. 2018
Suddenly the Reminder and Diary Lists stopped
showing
correctly. Only entries for today’s date in November and beyond
are shown.
The data seem still to be there as a pop-up appears when the mouse
is over a
calendar date with a reminder indicated.
I don’t recall doing anything that might have provoked this. The change seemed to occur from one day to the next.
I tried:-
# Resetting the computer to an earlier date put the listed events shown back also.
# I (yet again) explored the options without finding an obvious control that might affect the problem.
# I tried changing to an .ics backup file from October : No change to problem.
# I tried uninstall and then to install file downloaded from the Reminderfox website : Got message “file is corrupt” (several times).
# I then managed via the Thunderbird Add-ons function itself to re-install Reminderfox : No change to problem.
# I found the Thunderbird error console where the logging tab displayed the legend “Debug file is not configured”. Operating Reminderfox led to no entries in the console.
# Previously, in “about:config” the Javascript Extensions entry “…showInConsole” was true.
# Also however, the entry “…debug.loglevel” could not be found. It wasn’t in the list of Reminderfox extensions; at least not under that name or anything similar
Ever hopèful

Philip

How to install using Thunderbird as mail client:
Thanks Guenter,
I did what you said; the update seemed to happen but, alas, there was no change in the problem.
It seems as though some line in the software, depending on today's date, is blanking out all historic entries?
Cheers;
Philip
Just to be sure .. did you made the proposed update?
This is important because you use TB60.3.Feedback is very much appreciated, thanks

Hi Philip!
Check the drop down box indicated by the red arrow. It may have
been reset from Selected Year to something else.

Hello Paul,
I'd tried various things in this box. No good: nothing is shown from before today's date.
A thought: Since after uninstal/download/reinstall the problem persists, does this suggest some obscure fault in the software? (e.g. Apart from the ics file is there another file, not erased by uninstall, that stores settings?). OR perhaps a Windows register entry that is somehow stuck and not reset?
(Sorry! - I shouldn't try to teach you guys to "suck eggs"!).
Regards
Philip
13/11: A new detail - see below.
10:56 - A new detail:
I just noticed that if I try to enter a new
event with today's date (at either a future or past time) this
is recorded but not shown
Correction : Sorry, ignore previous msg;
I mistook the date ..

Hi Philip,
following this discussion I understood
-- you updated RmFx with the version
reminderfox_2.1.6.4_beta_20181109_1751.xpi
-- you use that with TB60.3
but the problem isn't solved.
Also I didn't followed all of the discussion -- thanks to Colin to support this -- your situation seems to be very unique and to me, it isn't "logical". So we need to go an extra route, please follow this:
-- close TB/RmFx
-- open TB60.3 and allow to define a new profile; for the test you
don't need to add an mail account, just skip it
-- on the new profile install the mentioned
reminderfox_2.1.6.4_beta_20181109_1751.xpi
-- open Reminderfox and add reminders, add reminders with the
same definitions you have had problems with
-- is the problem solved or not? ... Please let us know!
-- assuming the first test was OK, now import your ICS data in
question
-- is the problem there again? ... Please let us know!
If both tests are positive, say the reminder handling is OK, you have a problem with your TB profile and you should migrate all your accounts, addressbooks, reminders to that new profile.
In the case it's faulty again we need to analyze your ICS data ... more for that later.

This relates to ReminderFox installed on: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/60.3.0 --
Thunderbird is working normally again. After sleeping on the problem and applying logic I managed to change back to the default profile. Thus at leisure I can transfer data over to the new profile and eventually get back to normal with Reminderfox.
Thanks for all the help and advice. It's rare for us ordinary Joes to be able to get through to the experts!
Günter, I suggest you stay with WIN 7 as long as you can! (tho'
I'd guess you mostly use more elevated systems ...). I reluctantly
switched from XP to WIN 10 at the last possible moment and am not
enjoying the experience. Any new features are either trivial or of
no interest and MS has redistributed all the basic and useful
features and controls all over the place for absolutely no good
reason.
As they have done with Office, Skype and I don't know what else.
I do wish that twenty years ago I'd started with Apple instead of
WinTel.
PS: Does anyone have a foolproof way to convert a modest
programme written in Visual Basic 4 to be able to run in WIN 10
etc?
Regards,
Philip
