For those who could not attend the service in Brunswick on Saturday but
are curious about what it was like, below is an attempt at briefly
summarizing the events.

Moving the service to the Brunswick High School auditorium, it turned
out, was a wise decision as--I would say--somewhere around 200 people
were in attendance. On stage before the service, there was a projected
photo montage of Megan, from baby pictures to her days in action with
the People's Free Space and the Frida bus. The service itself was a
mixture of prayer, song, and remembrances. Megan's dad gave a very
heartfelt, moving, and honest speech about her, recalling both his
fondest memories of her and some of the most distressing memories of
their relationship. Two of her friends from the People's Free Space
also shared their memories of Megan, and articulated the importance of
the work she did and services she provided as a volunteer and activist.
There was then an opportunity for anyone in attendance to share
memories of Megan, and quite a number of people did. Despite the fact
that the audience comprised people from all parts of Megan's life, from
family, to her middle-aged grade school teachers, to her companions
from the People's Free Space, I think everyone in the auditorium
recognized the person being describing. The memories of her
friendliness, bullheadedness, childlike sense of excitement and
curiosity, and the Meg-isms recited all struck a chord. It was
comforting to surround myself with people who had similar experiences
with her. And I think it's a testament to her character and charisma
that so may people from so many different walks of life could gather
and remember her with such fondness.

I invite anyone to please embellish upon what I've written above, as I
realize it's neither particularly beautifully composed or a
comprehensive account. There were a number of anecdotes about Megan
that were related, and I would welcome you to write about the ones you
recall from the service (my memory is currently completely failing me
in that department right now) or to share your own.
