Dear Remakery directors and others

Thought you might be interested in attending this Transition Town Brixton event next Monday (below).

I will be giving a short presentation (among lots of others) about my own experience so far of making Transition part of my livelihood, and also about what role the Remakery might play as a catalyst and incubator of Transition enterprises and livelihoods. (What is a transition enterprise? Working definition here: http://www.reconomy.org/what%E2%80%99s-a-transition-enterprise-draft/)

So I thought it would be good to have some other Remakery people there to be part of the discussion around the Remakery's potential role as incubator.

Part of the reason for this event is that Transition Town Brixton has some funding (about £25k over 3 years) from the Reconomy Project for "identifying and delivering practical means to support local emerging Transition-oriented enterprises": http://www.reconomy.org/christmas-comes-early-for-reconomy-2-transition-groups/

Let me know if you are thinking of coming along and perhaps we can have a chat in advance about how we want to connect the Remakery into this conversation with other parts of Transition Town Brixton.

Hannah

  together towards a BETTER low energy future

MONDAY 13 January, 6-9pm
Developing Transition Livelihoods
at TTB Shared Space open evening, at the Loughborough Centre, 105 Angell Road, (junction with Barrington Road), SW9 7PD (map)

The aim is:
+ to inspire people that making your living being part of the solution is possible;
+ to hear from people who have begun to do this;
+ to look at what the opportunities are for 'transition enterprises' that supply real local needs;
+ to look at what it takes;
+ and to begin to provide practical help to enable people to make the change to doing what they really want to do and being part of the solution.

The schedule is:
6-7pm set up, eat, network.

7pm short film by Sibylle Mansour and Sue Bell, 'Making a life, making a living', asking the question, 'what is a Transition Livelihood?'

Stories and thoughts from people who have begun to transition their work, including founders of TTB Community Draught Busters, Remakery Brixton, Lambeth Poly (see picture) and more.. Also we hope Colin Crooks will be there, Lambeth's Social Entrepreneur in Residence and author of 'How to make a million jobs – a charter for social enterprise', who is running business start-up courses for Lambeth's young unemployed.

7.45-9pm Discussion to identify local opportunities for livelihoods within Transition work. Network people who want to start up similar enterprises to help move them forward in their chosen field. Practical discussion around getting started, budgeting, finance, looking at the challenges of making the transition from employment to enterprise... TTB has some funding for next year to help incubate transition enterprises. TTB has completed 2 reports recently on the opportunities within a new, rethought, resilient, relocalised 'REconomy' focussing especially on food and energy. We will be casting the net wider at this event!

Bring your dreams for making your life your work and your life's work your living and we will try and move it towards being possible.

Help needed: contributions towards the food (tell us what you will bring), expertise, experience, your positive stories, mentoring, getting the word out... be in touch

“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”  Howard Thurman.
“We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”  Albert Einstein.
“In order to change an existing paradigm you do not struggle to try and change the problematic model. You create a new model and make the old one obsolete.”  Richard Buckminster Fuller.

Together towards a better future.
