Hi Remakers,
Have you heard that part of Lambeth Town Hall is to be turned into a co-working space?
It's under the umbrella of the Hub (which already has branches in Islington, Kings X and Westminster and I knew some of the founders a few years ago).
Kristina from Makerhood is one of the main co-ordinators of the initiative - there's an email from her below about it, with link to their new website.
I'd prefer to go on Friday 14th (12.30-2.00) but could also go on the 10th (7.00-8.30). Would any of you be up for coming too? Would be good to have more than one brain thinking about how this could relate to the Remakery.
In my reply to Kristina I said:
"We're planning to have a (much smaller) co-working office at the Remakery itself for members to use, so in a sense we might see the Hub as competition, but I'd rather see how each has appropriate niches (geographically the Remakery is more of a local neighbourhood thing, so Loughborough Junction / Minet area groups might suit being here while the Hub is more for Brixton-wide / Lambeth-wide / non-location-specific initiatives; also as a community of interest, we'll have the focus on re-use, repair, upcycling based projects while the Hub is much broader).
We also have people with lots of making skills who might be able to help fit out the Hub space... e.g. a very talented upholstery group doing wonders transforming old office chairs into things of beauty! And a team that is pitching for Lambeth council's desk remodelling project (yep, literally making desks smaller as they cut down the size of their offices) so there might be some links there... Use the desk offcuts to make new ones for the Hub perhaps?!"
Those are my initial thoughts but there might be various other connections too... Let me know your thoughts and if you can make it to one of the visioning events.
Hannah

Dear All,
I hope you are all doing well. You are probably across the plans to use the basement space in the Town Hall for a co-working enterprise space. I got involved in this recently, and the project is about to get off the ground. We've just published a project site explaining what it's all about:
http://brixtonimpacthub.net/
We'll be holding workshops in March to co-design the space and hope to make it available for people to use quite quickly.
Its crucial that the project connects with the Transition Town community - we are very keen to get your input and feedback on how the space can support your work and be useful to the many brilliant green projects and enterprises in the borough.
We're holding vision design session on 5 and 10 March (here's the Eventbrite page:
http://hubbrixtonworkshop.eventbrite.co.uk/)
It would be great to see you there if you can make it. If you can't, please let me know and I'll make sure I catch up with you separately to get your feedback.
Cheers,
Kristina
