Hi everyone,

Here's the interim report from UCL students, explaining the scope of their project, what they've done so far, and where it's going next.

They're keen to emphasise that it's not set in stone - we are invited to alter their direction to make it as useful as possible to the Remakery.  To that end, those  interested in the flow of materials and products into and out of Remakery please take a look and let me know your thoughts by the first week of January.

Hi Colin, thanks for sharing this.  Some useful stuff in there.  I wonder whether we should ask them to look more at the operational side of how stuff is managed once we are open, rather than going all funky and conceptual and and appy now when really we just need something workable to open our doors.  I think initially we are going to be looking at a scenario of opening with no centre manager or other paid post that would comprise material management, thus is it feasible to open a system using volunteers?  Is there a way they could design an easy to follow system that any volunteer could follow?  Under 5.1 bullet 3 they do allude to this, but it comes across as more of a database and model rather than actually trying to implement a system.  The trialing of the system is up to the Remakery  under bullet 4, but I propose that we loop them into this too, really, so that they can see the model in action and tweak it accordingly.  Their suggestion under 5.1 leaves us with an unfinished system and a list of recommendations.  I propose it leaves us with a tried and tested system, that is straightforward to use and can be manned by volunteers.  Am I overly ambitious here?!

I think we are having an FGB meeting soon on how we phase our opening which will help inform what we need to do for the materials store.  Will keep you posted.

Happy new year!

Angela
