Hi Remakers,

Some of you might be interested in coming with me to this meeting (below) about a proposed "Workshop Union" for the various shared workshops / makerspaces that are springing up around London to share knowledge and potentially pool resources and support.

The date has now been set for Weds 23rd April from 7pm (for 7.30 start) at Blackhorse Workshop in Walthamstow. We could travel up on the Victoria line from Brixton, leaving at about 6 / 6.30. Let me know if you'd like to come along.

Cheers

Hannah

Dear all

Hope this finds you well.

I am from an art and architecture collective Assemble - we recently set up Blackhorse Workshop in Walthamstow. In the early days of our research and conversations, it seemed that making spaces in London would benefit from more collaboration and dialogue.

So I am getting in touch about setting up a Workshop Union! This would be an organisation, which brings together and represents the various London based maker spaces (perhaps further afield in the country down the line). We think some of the benefits for establishing a more formal network include:

- sharing equipment at discounted prices
- securing discounts with larger suppliers and distributors
- material reuse
- sharing knowledge
- meeting other 'makers' / 'craftsmen' / 'tradesmen' etc.
- advertising jobs
- finding subcontractors
- showcasing a wide range of work
- ...

This is obviously very vague at the moment, and would need to be developed by us all together! So... It would be good to get a sense of how many people are interested in this? It was great to speak to some of you already, and generally feedback has been very positive!!

After a quick hands up, I propose we meet soon. How about sometime in the week commencing 14th April?

Look forward to hearing back from you.

All best

Maria
