CALL FOR PAPERS:
WAY OF LIFE
THE QUEST FOR MEANING IN RELIGION, PHILOSOPHY AND SCIENCE
Symposium on Philosophy of Religion
University of Helsinki, 9-10 April , 2010
The symposium deals with the following general themes: (a) Religious
conceptions of salvation, (b) religion as a way of life, (c )
philosophy as a way of life, (d) science (scientism) and existential
questions.
Main speakers and their tentative titles:
Prof. Dirk-Martin Grube (Utrecht):
Kuhn's Notion of Paradigm Shifts and Religious Meaning
Prof. Sara Heinämaa (Uppsala):
The Philosophical Change of Attitude – In Comparison to Religious and
Moral Conversions
Prof. Jeppe Jensen (Aarhus):
The 'Way of Life-Metaphor' – Perspectives on Religious Life Scripts
and Normative Cognition
Prof. Risto Saarinen (Helsinki):
The Language of Giving in Seneca and in Philosophical Theology
Other speakers include Prof. Simo Knuuttila (Helsinki) and Dr. Timo
Koistinen (Helsinki).
The papers will be approximately twenty minutes long with an
additional ten or fifteen minutes reserved for discussion.
Please, submit your proposal in the form of an abstract of maximum 100
words to

Submission deadline: January 15th, 2010.
Notification of acceptance: February 1st, 2010.
The symposium is organised by the Department of Systematic Theology
and NSPR [Nordic Society for Philosophy of Religion (http://

Accommodation and travel expenses are supported with up to NOK 4000
(approx. 500 euro) by the NSPR and PRINE [Philosophy of Religion In
Northern Europe, Research Network sponsored by NordForsk, (http://
