TheCadet Corps is a place to learn hands-on about policing while attending the University of the District of Columbia Community College and earn college credits. Cadets will spend part of their time working specific job assignments for MPD while also working toward their degree.
The Cadet Corps High School Program is designed to prepare high school seniors for entrance into the full-time Cadet Corps. This program enables high school seniors to complete their senior year of school while working part-time for the Metropolitan Police Department Cadet Corps.
This part-time option will provide students with unique opportunities to develop their leadership skills, participate in physical training, and learn about policing. Participants will work 12 hours per week and earn approximately $17.56/hour. Upon graduation from high school, part-time cadets will be converted into a full-time member of the Cadet Corps, and they will be enrolled in the University of the District of Columbia and complete the remainder of their training.
The High School Cadet Corps is designed to prepare high school seniors for entrance into the Metropolitan Police Cadet Corps. High School seniors can join the High School Police Cadet Program working part time for the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD)while enrolled in high school.

The Police Cadet Corps is designed to prepare candidates for entrance into the Metropolitan Police Officer Recruit Program and ensures that a steady stream of District of Columbia youth are actively recruited as future police officers.
How long does it take for a cadet to convert to a full-time police officer?
Cadets convert to career police status upon completion of up to sixty (60) college credits and acceptance into the Recruit Officer Training Program phase.

Cadets are eligible to enroll in medical/hospital coverage only. A payroll deduction of 2.75% of biweekly gross salary is charged for single enrollment in the least expensive plan in the Cadet's county of residence. Cadets may elect to enroll in a more expensive medical plan with an additional payroll deduction for plan buy-up. Cadets may also elect to cover eligible family members by paying the cost for a family plan via payroll deduction.
Upon promotion to the rank of Trooper, members and their dependents are eligible for additional benefits, i.e., Dental Care Program, Vision Care Plan, and Prescription Drug Program. The Commonwealth pays the entire cost of all coverages for the Trooper and their eligible family members.
After graduation from the Game Warden Training Center and receiving a commission as a State Peace Officer, the Game Warden will perform responsible field enforcement duties involving the enforcement of all provisions of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Code, Texas Penal Code and relevant provisions of other Texas laws, including:
Station Assignment: The applicant must be willing and able to accept an assignment anywhere in the State of Texas upon graduation from academy training and commissioning as a Texas Game Warden. Assignments will be made where vacancies exist statewide and shall be made in the best interest of the department. Assignments will be made after the successful completion of the academy training period.
Work Schedule: The applicant must be willing and able to: work state and federal holidays; work hours other than 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with days off other than Saturday and Sunday; are subject to call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Cadets may be required to work over 8 hours per day.
Work Environment: Cadets and Game Wardens work extensively out-of-doors, during inclement and sometimes hazardous weather conditions, during natural disasters and under other possibly dangerous conditions. At times, wardens and cadets are required to work in highly stressful situations that may be hazardous to their health and safety, which could include working with people who are injured, violent, emotionally upset or otherwise pose a danger.
Dress Code: Cadets and Game Wardens are required to wear a prescribed uniform and adhere to established dress and grooming standards. Uniforms include equipment such as firearms and other defensive equipment. Commissioned personnel on duty and in uniform will maintain a neat and clean appearance according to the Law Enforcement General Orders to include:
Residence: Cadets will be required to live at the Game Warden Training Center near Hamilton, Texas, for the duration of the training period, approximately 30 weeks. All rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the Academy must be followed while in residence.

The Maryland Natural Resources Police Cadet program is a paid training program that allows eager men and women between 18-20 years of age to learn about being a Maryland Natural Resources Police Officer through hands-on experience and prepares them for the police academy.
Admission to the program is competitive, as applicants must undergo a background check, physical and written test, psychological review, and various interviews. Every day will be different for the cadets. They will receive training in both the field and the classroom from the officers themselves. Classes include boater and hunter safety courses, self-defense, specialized units, and more.
Promotion to Sergeant
A police officer is currently eligible for promotion to the rank of sergeant once they have attained five (5) years of service from their hire date as a cadet.
Promotion to Lieutenant
Sergeants are eligible to promote to the rank of lieutenant after two (2) years in grade as a sergeant and must have attained an associate's degree or completed a minimum of 65 hours towards a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Promotion to Commander
Lieutenants are eligible to promote to the rank of commander after two (2) years. Candidates for promotion to the rank of commander must have obtained a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
Promotion to the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant, and commander each require passing a written examination and an assessment center in order to be placed on a promotional eligibility list. Commander is the last rank that can be attained via the testing process.
After an initial three-year period as a patrol officer, an officer will be eligible to apply for transfer to another division. HPD has over 45 divisions including Patrol, Vehicular Crimes, Traffic Enforcement, Mental Health, Gangs, Burglary and Theft, Homicide, Juvenile, Major Assaults and Family Violence, Robbery, Special Victims, Auto Theft, Criminal Intelligence, Cyber and Financial Crimes, Major Offenders, Narcotics, Vice, Crime Analysis and Command Center, Tactical Operations, Special Operations, Airport (Hobby), Airport (Intercontinental), Emergency Communications, Air and Marine, Training, Recruiting, Risk Management, and Employee Services, to name a few.
The Kentucky State Police Academy is an intense, 24-week paramilitary environment designed to teach our Cadets the job skills necessary to perform the duties of a Trooper. Those selected to attend our Academy will receive more than 1,000 hours of training covering all aspects of law enforcement, including Firearms, Defensive Tactics, Criminal Investigations, Emergency Driving, Strategies and Tactics of Patrol Stops (STOPS), Counter-Ambush, and more.
Cadets are paid and receive benefits during the Academy. All equipment and agency clothing are issued. Meals and living arrangements while assigned to the Academy are provided by KSP. Minimal expense to the Cadet is required prior to beginning your career.
After 25 years of service, employees are eligible for disbursement from their Kentucky Retirement System contribution plan, either in a lump sum or a monthly payment. Additionally, retirees receive a monthly allowance to apply to their health coverage based on their years of service.
Each interview shall be conducted using the same guidelines for all eligible applicants. A three-person board conducts the interview and scores the applicant based on her/his responses. Selected scores, based on departmental needs, will continue to a polygraph examination.
KSP is now using an on-line, proctored aptitude test which replaces the former written exam used for previous cadet classes. The aptitude test being given is part of the Kentucky Career Readiness Certificate program. The test measures core employability skills in reading, mathematics and data. To be eligible to move on in the KSP selection process and advance, you must pass the proctored KCRC assessment and achieve a Level 2 on all three parts.
This examination is the beginning of the background investigation. All applicants who successfully complete the aptitude and achieve appropriate scores on the physical testing and interview shall be required to complete an extensive background investigation.

The Anne Arundel County Police Cadet Program is a part-time paid position intended for young adults with aspirations to become police officers by the age of 21. Police cadets are uniformed civilian employees who work approximately 24-40 hours per week in a variety of assignments around the department. Cadets in the program help accomplish the mission of the police department while contributing to the function of its various units.
