details about research problems deleted
If you research a TASOTH commander, I have heard that you will never
get the option to research a Leviathan. Therefore you cannot finish the
game. This is the only "permanent" research bug I've heard of.
The "tree" is very screwy now. You have to reasearch dead corpses
and live aliens to get many of the tech tree items. Also, if you research
a squad leader before, say, a terrorist, of a type, you will get the info
for "first alien of a type searched" and may not get whatever the "leader"
would trigger. My suggested is to research every corpse and alien (all
types of each species) and to keep a list of which ones you've done. This
should help you get through some of the "minor" glitches in the tree.
Note, researching a DEEP ONE corpse and terrorist seems to trigger major
portions of the tree--so make SURE you've done those. Best of luck.
(Boy, am I glad I waited to get XCOM II cheap....else I'd have felt really
ripped off!)

The problem you might have is one common to all.
THe overall research methods have changed. To be able to research certain
alien technologies, you actually have to capture an alien.
Different aliens give you different technologies. The rank of an alien is
also important. Lobester men will give you the hand to hand weapons...

Actually, this is not entirely correct, and I don't think it is the
answer to either of our problems.
Certainly you need certain aliens to research certain items, but I can
assure you I have researched every alien many times over, and still
haven't got what I need. JFTR, it is calcinites that start you on the
HTH weapons, and then you need a lobsterman, I think to continue.
I have carefully traced my lack of knowledge to Alien Sub
Construction. I have plenty of Alien Sub Constructions to research, I
have Zrbite and I have Transmission Resolver. According to the USG, i
should now be able to research Alien Sub Construction, but
unfortunately, I can't, so I am stuck.
If anyone else can come up with a solution before I smash this game
into a thousand pieces, please help me!
Cheers,
Rob
Hi...
If all else fails you can use an editor and give yourself alien sub
construction.

Rob,
There's a research bug in the TFTD patch which can make it impossible to
get certain items. The critical item is to research both Deep One corpses and live
Deep Ones *FIRST* before any other aliens.
IOW, the ORDER in which you do the research is important.
