If you only have one payment method on file, you can't remove it without adding a new payment method first. When a payment method is removed from your account, Netflix will no longer be able to charge that payment method unless it is re-added to your Netflix account.

Customer Service is unable to remove a specific payment method from your account. However, we can remove all payment methods as long as you are not paying through a partner or with a gift card. Once removed, you can add a new payment method to your account before your current billing period ends if you want to continue using Netflix.

Called Virgin Media again, second line support checked with customer services that they have not sent me such an email. I explained if that is the case, then how come Netflix have started charging me and have notification that partner payment has ended - ?

Thanks Martin, I received the re-activation email, actioned successfully. i also got confirmation from Netflix that the payment is from VM again. So issue is now resolved, just waiting for Netflix to refund the 10.99 they took as payment on the day it was cancelled.

Hi Scott68,

Thanks for your update - it's great to hear you've received the email and been able to re-activate your Netflix account. If you do need anything else, please feel free to reach out and we'll be more than happy to assist.

Thanks,

The exact same thing has happened to me. I contacted VM a couple of days ago and I was promised it would be sorted. I have now had a payment taken from my credit card by Netflix and my billing is still showing as via my credit card on my Netflix account.
Please help.

Welcome to our community forums and sorry to hear you are experiencing the same issues with Netflix. We can understand the frustration caused and want to best help. Since posting have you received an activation email from our team? Also are you able to see an activation button in your my VM account? -virgin-media

Netflix does not allow you to remove your card information from the account. A hacker can hijack your account and replace contact details with theirs. Then they can subscribe to Netflix and enjoy all at your cost. This is not hypothetical. It happened to me and may be waiting to happen to you. Have you have faced a similar situation? Please click "Insightful" icon. When there are more people, at least Netflix will hear and secure our information properly.

I had a old free trial Netflix account that I was not using for a long time. Unfortunately, when I was on travel, a hacker subscribed to a premium service from my account. There were a couple of emails from Netflix on phone and email updates but the damage was already done. I could only get partial information such as

Then I had to talk to Netflix customer support for hours to reclaim my own account. If hackers were subjected to such long duration conversations to achieve their goals then I sincerely feel they would not hack.

Despite causing financial harm, Netflix chose to hide the details of this hacker. With no action taken against hackers, they are indirectly motivated by Netflix to scout around and look for more people without any penalty.

  1. Netflix does not securely handle your card transactions: Netflix did not validate through OTP or CVC during the transaction. They cannot secure your card at least they need not save your card information for hackers to prey on.
  2. Remove your credit card from the account: I contacted customer care and after a long conversation, they removed credit card from my account. So, removing your card is hidden but doable.
  3. Provide a expendable credit card: I know credit card companies handle fraud complaints but that is another prolonged journey. But they also cancel your credit cards and try to issue a new one. Indirectly this is a denial of service in security terms. You cannot use your card for a week or 10 days. So, make sure you provide a credit card that you are not depending for your daily transactions.

Ideally, we do not need to share credit card information to Netflix for free trials. They can send renewal message and if not interested subscription can be suspended on due date. Unless FTC or others intervene, this will not happen.

I am trying to just update my credit card expiry date. It will only let me remove my credit card and re-add it with the new expiry date. BUT!!! It won't allow me to remove the credit card because my Netflix subscription is billed through iTunes. When I go to Netflix to try and remove the payment method, it says must update the billing info in iTunes. And around and around we go! No solution.

Maybe you have stopped using a specific payment method, or you changed credit cards. It can be super annoying and, more importantly, risky to have several payment methods on your account. You can easily remove expired payment methods from your Netflix account by following our guide.

Netflix is a paid streaming video-on-demand service based in the United States. It is also available worldwide in several languages, and mainly distributes original, purchased movies and television series from a variety of genres.

With over 260 million paid customers across 190+ countries as of January 2024, Netflix is the most popular video-on-demand streaming media service. It was launched on January 16, 2007, almost ten years after Netflix, Inc. started its groundbreaking DVD-by-mail movie rental service.

Security in today's digital environment must keep as little personal data as possible online. Your Netflix account is also affected by this. Although it can be convenient to have several payment options accessible, there may be security hazards involved. Unauthorized password sharing is potentially costing Netflix more than $600 million a month, or more than $7.3 billion a year.

You can reduce the potential risk of a data leak by eliminating any payment methods that aren't being used on your Netflix account. You can feel more at ease and have a more secure streaming experience because there are fewer payment methods saved and hence less sensitive information in danger.

Your payment details are not under Netflix's control if you originally registered for the service through a third-party platform like iTunes, Google Play, or your mobile provider. In this scenario, you will have to go straight to the site where you signed up and amend your billing information.

You must always have at least one active payment method on file to access Netflix. By doing this, service outages or missing payments are prevented, and continuous service is guaranteed. This means that you cannot just remove your default payment method without first setting up a backup payment option.

You have to delete your Netflix account to change the billing currency. Restart your membership in the destination country when your previous account expires and you've relocated. Next, go to Account > Membership & Billing > Manage payment info > Add Payment Method and add your updated payment method.

It will be easier for you to update your Netflix payment method if you are aware of these limitations mentioned above. Verify your billing statements or get in touch with Netflix help if you're not sure which platform you signed up on.

Recall that while you can add a new payment method to your Netflix account that is directly controlled before deleting the previous default one, you must update your payment information for third-party billing through the relevant platform.

This article only applies to customers who have subscribed to Netflix through an X1 TV Box or Xfinity Flex streaming TV Box, also known as Comcast-billed Netflix customers. If you have Netflix included in your X1 package, see Netflix FAQs.

We provide Comcast billing for your Netflix charges as a convenience. Your Netflix subscription charge will appear on your Comcast bill under the Other Service Providers heading and will include the amount of the charge and the date through which you will have service, as determined by Netflix. (Please note, your Netflix subscription may be subject to associated taxes and fees.)

If you are on a trial or promotion, your Netflix subscription will still appear on your statement, but will show a $0.00 charge. At the end of the trial or promotion, the charge will reflect the price of your Netflix subscription package. Please see netflix.com/youraccount for a summary of your Netflix account status, plan and charges.

You may change your method of payment from your Comcast bill to a credit or debit card or another payment option accepted by Netflix at any time. To do so, contact Netflix support at netflix.com/youraccount. Note that Comcast-billed Netflix charges count toward your Xfinity On Demand/Pay Per View purchase limit unless Netflix is included in your Xfinity package.

One common problem to be aware of is accidentally signing up for an additional Netflix subscription on Xfinity Flex or X1 while already having an existing Netflix subscription that is using a different method of payment. If this happens and you would like to cancel your Comcast-billed Netflix account, contact us. To cancel or request credits for any other Netflix accounts, contact Netflix support at netflix.com/help.

Have a Netflix gift card that you'd like to use to pay your Netflix bill? Visit Netflix gift cards in North America to redeem it. (Applicable to Netflix users billed either through Netflix or Comcast.)

Upon inspection, we determined that the "Netflix - Update Your Payment Details" email is fake. This spam letter states that there are issues regarding the billing information on the recipient's Netflix account.
