Perpetual Contract Expiring?
Posted by Charlie - 04 Sep 04:48AM Hide picture Hello everyone,
After looking at my MyAvid account, I noticed something odd. A little less than a year ago I believe, I bought a perpetual contract of Sibelius at the student price. However, my account is now telling me that this license will expire on the 21st of October, 2020. Is this a visual glitch? Since I bought the perpetual license, I should never have to renew my contract, correct? Thank you very much!
Sincerely,
Charlie P. Back to top Allthreads Re: Perpetual Contract Expiring?

No, it is not the licence that is expiring, it is the Support and Update Plan which will expire. Your purchase included one year of Support and Updates. After that, the Plan requires renewal.
> Is this a visual glitch?
No, it is a real situation, not a glitch.
> Since I bought the perpetual license, I should never have to renew my contract, correct?
Your perpetual licence is not in question.
Without an in-date Support and Update Plan, you will:
- not receive any more Sibelius fixes and updates;
- not be entitled to Support from Avid without charge.
Furthermore, if you allow the Support and Update Plan to lapse, it is not possible later to "get back on the bus" with support and updates for your current Perpetual licence. The only way back to support and updates would be to sacrifice your existing Perpetual Licence, and cross-grade to a Subscription Licence.
So, if you value the nature of your Perpetual Licence, and the updates to Sibelius, you should seriously consider renewing the Support and Update Plan.

Posted by Charlie - 04 Sep 02:27PM Hide picture Hi Robin,
Thank you for the information; I was concerned that my Sibelius application itself was somehow expiring. I didn't know about the renewal situation though for the Support and Update Plan. Do I have until October 21st to renew it? Also, do you happen to know the price tag on it? I'm debating whether I should renew or not, as I have never used my support plan, and unless my Sibelius updates automatically, I do not recall when I last manually updated. I believe I recently saw a forum saying that a new update for Sibelius is available; maybe it's worth downloading it prior to the expiration of my Support and Update Plan? Lastly, just to clarify, is Avid trying to phase out the perpetual license by switching to a subscription license? I had that prior to my perpetual license, and do not recall if I had access to a Support and Upgrade Plan with the subscription license. Are you able to either confirm or deny a perpetual Support and Upgrade Plan with the subscription license? Thank you very much.
Sincerely,

Whatever your "My Avid" account web page says, at
> Also, do you happen to know the price tag on it?
Whatever your "My Avid" account web page says. It depends which currency your account uses (and local tax rates), and the length of the renewal period requested (one year or three years).
> I'm debating whether I should renew or not
That is your decision. Although, if "Auto Renewal" is configured to "ON" in your "My Avid" account web page, then, even if you do nothing, your Support and Update Plan will automatically be extended, and charged to your credit card.
> maybe it's worth downloading it prior to the expiration of my Support and Update Plan?
That is your decision.
> is Avid trying to phase out the perpetual license by switching to a subscription license?
Avid have not made any such announcement.
> Are you able to either confirm or deny a perpetual Support and Upgrade Plan with the subscription license?
The payment rates for Subscription Licences include Support and Updates at no further charge: there is no separate "Plan" for Subscription Licences.
Perpetual Licences do not include access (without further charge) to Support, or to Updates, unless there is an in-date Support and Update Plan in effect. An in-date Support and Update Plan can be extended either for one year or for three years at a time.
A Support and Update Plan cannot be reinstated to a Perpetual Licence for which the last Support and Update Plan expired.

Posted by Charlie - 04 Sep 02:31PM Hide picture Sorry, one other thing. My account page says that the "Academic Eligibility for your account is expiring Oct 22, 2020." Is this just another reminder that my Support and Upgrade Plan is expiring? Thanks.

No, it means what it says. Your entitlement to academic discount rates will expire on the given date. For any further academic discount rates, you will need to renew your academic eligibility.

I don't know whether there are academic discounts for renewals/extensions. I suspect that the only way to find out is to go through the process.

Posted by Charlie - 04 Sep 04:58PM Hide picture Got it, thank you. My current pricing for a 1-year renewal on my Support and Upgrade Plan is $99.99. Do you happen to know if this is atypical when compared to the normal pricing? Thanks.

That sounds like the normal price for a 1-year extension.

Avid Sibelius Ultimate notation software enables you to compose rich scores with unlimited instrument parts and custom layouts - standalone perpetual license Multi-seat New Seat allows one Sibelius Ultimate serial number to be used on multiple computers.
Whether you're a professional film composer, music educator, composition student, or a hobbyist who must deal with limited free time, Sibelius Ultimate gives you the leg-up you need to realize your music, particularly where time is your greatest challenge. Among film composers working against tight deadlines, it's a well-known fact that coming in under budget (which is where your profits lay) is the shortest distance between score and soundstage. That's where Sibelius shines. The biggest speed bump in that scenario is what happens after the score is written. In the days of handwritten notation, that's where the hard work began. Apart from finding mistakes in notation, what works on paper doesn't always work in the room, and what works in the room doesn't always work in a recording. With Sibelius, there are several functions that streamline the process, from the ability loop selections at various tempi (great for experimentation as well as education), scrub playback to spot-check parts and make corrections, and advanced features that let you speed through score refinement. Plus, it integrates with Pro Tools and other software that enable you to compose, transcribe, publish, and protect your work with Cloud publishing tools and digital rights management. Sibelius is the most used notation software among professionals, aspiring composers, educators, and students.
