I'm not figuring out how to write the ISO on my 8 GB USB. I'm coming from Windows 10, and I'm using Rufus. The current version of Rufus is 3.14.1735 and it looks notably different than the one in the install instructions. I don't see where DD Image Mode is an option, unlike how it shows in the instructions. I'm thinking this might be why it isn't working. Here is what it looks like:
I am trying to install windows 7 from a USB UEFI stick that I tried to create in vain. I read other posts on creating UEFI USB Boot sticks and found Rufus the most convenient option . However , Rufus won't allow me a choice of GPT method and Fat32. It complains that it needs a UEFI ISO image.
Is this is an issue with missing EFI files is there a way I can download them , alternately can I use GRUB BASED EFI Loader to boot dual boot windows 8 and windows 7 on a EFI Laptop. Just to clarify windows 8 is pre-installed.Windows 7 needs to be installed as dual boot option to windows 8 using a UEFI USB stick .
If you have sponsors, your sponsors should be able to provide the correct file formats for you, at your request. If they are unable to provide vector art for you, then the next best option will be to obtain an image of their logo that is as clean and legible as possible. We can rebuild sponsorship logos for you at no cost, but cannot guarantee accuracy.
It also auto-select the USB Flash Drive as shown in Fig 2. Now click the SELECT Button and choose the Windows 7 ISO file. It will update the options to create the bootable Pendrive or Flash Drive as shown in Fig 3.
MBR Only - Now again right-click the USB drive partition and click the option Mark Partition as Active. The Mark Partition as Active option remains disabled for UEFI. We can also mark the MBR partition as active using the diskpart utility as shown in Fig 11. We can start the diskpart utility by using the command diskpart on the console. It can also be started by pressing WIN + R to start the run utility and enter diskpart to start it.
I tried some flashing tools that I got through the internet, such as balenaEtcher, rufus, and ISO2Disc, and including dd, but it is still showing UEFI instead of BIOS. I tried changing the settings of flashing tools that I'm using too, but it is still showing UEFI instead of BIOS.
Rufus will automatically make the usb work as "BIOS and UEFI", so if your computer supports UEFI it will only show UEFI options, since it will boot from the EFI Bootloader, however You can override this by, enabling BIOS mode on your PC BIOS:
After following the Norton instructions to make NBRT USB drive, I have tried remaking the USB using many different options as suggested by ones that have had the same problem. A boot was almost successful using the Rufus options: GPT, UEFI (non-CSM), NTFS. But the boot process failed with the error: Could not locate efi\boot\bootx64.efi: [14] not found. Searching for x64 EFI bootloader
You are off to a good start. But it sounds like you are trying to save the image on the same USB drive that you booted with Clonezilla Live. This is possible but not recommended. The best option is to use a small USB boot drive with Clonezilla Live installed (which you have just created) and then use another USB drive to hold the saved image(s).
