It may be difficult to find Reiki masters in Santa Fe, NM. It is
difficult to find training or practitioners in many areas of the
United States. The field is still growing.
Some colleges and universities that offer classes for massage
therapists also include a short program or continuing education
package for Reiki therapy. Reiki therapy and conventional massage
therapy are similar in some ways, but different in others.
Massage therapy focuses on relieving tension and pain in the muscles
or joints through manual manipulation. Reiki therapists use the
universal life force energy to provide the same relief, but,
typically, only a light touch is used. Some Reiki practitioners do not
actually touch the patient at all.
Although Reiki and massage therapy are not closely related, they both
belong to a group known as healing touch therapy. Reiki is further
classified as a form of "energy" medicine. Magnet therapy and
biofeedback are also classified as energy medicine.
Reiki and other types of healing touch therapies are becoming more and
more popular as research continues to show the health benefits of
these therapies. As time goes by, it may be easier to find Reiki
masters in Santa FE, NM and other areas of the country.
In some states, the practice of Reiki is regulated and licensing is
required. Florida, for example, requires that Reiki practitioners also
be licensed massage therapists.
At this time, there is no state licensing procedure for Reiki masters
in Santa Fe, NM. The state regulations applying to the practice of
massage therapy do not apply to Reiki and no other overseeing
organization currently regulates the practice. Some masters have tried
to develop a national guild or professional group for the self-
regulation of Reiki, but membership in these groups is strictly
voluntary.
The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine advises
that Reiki should not be used to replace or delay conventional
treatment for a medical problem. It is a "complementary" therapy that
may be helpful in many conditions. The Center is currently sponsoring
research into how and if Reiki works in the treatment of various
conditions.
The Center also advises that the prices charged for Reiki treatments
vary from free to "donations accepted" to a fee structure similar to
conventional treatments. Although price may not be your only
consideration, it is helpful in choosing a reputable practitioner from
those who advertise as Reiki masters in Santa Fe, NM.
Right now, the easiest and least expensive way to learn to use Reiki
is with e-books available on the internet. Some of these are very good
and go into great detail about how to become a Reiki master in the
privacy of your own home. For those who want to learn more, there are
instructional videos.
If you have little or no experience with Reiki, an e-book is a good
place to start. That way if you want more knowledge or you want to
develop a practice of your own, you can seek additional, more
expensive seminars or classes. It is unlikely, but you might decide
that Reiki is not for you, but you will have invested less time and
money with an e-book than what is typically charged for a class or
seminar.
