Take the guess work out of your monthly bill with the Budget Plan. This free and easy way to help manage your monthly expenses allows you to know exactly what you will owe each month. This plan estimates your yearly cost for utilities, and divides that total into 12 equal installments. These installments become the "level payment amount" for your billing each month. Every six months, your account is reviewed to determine if your level payment amount needs to change to achieve a zero balance at the end of your budget year. There may also be other times that we readjust your budget amount due to usage pattern changes, unusual weather conditions, or utility rate changes.
If you are interested in taking advantage of the Budget Plan, please call us at 434-970-3211 to receive an application, or complete and submit the Budget Plan online application. Please carefully read the Budget Plan Rules before submitting your request.

Recently, I came across a post where someone was advertising that medical billing is easy and there are no pre-requisites to performing tasks associated with it. They were trying to recruit innocent bystanders in shelling out money so that this person could "show" them that this is a career of choice and it could lead to owning their own billing company in no time!
I wanted to comment on that post but I didn't, because I refrain from promoting negativity on social media; however, I did want to address the misinformation some people spread on this platform. For most outsiders, and many insiders, medical billing is basic data entry. Over the years, I have seen doctors putting their spouse or family member in charge without providing proper education and training about claims and denials. They are expected to learn on the job and "figure it out" because hiring a competent biller or outsourcing to a reputable billing company is "too expensive". I've seen these same doctors lose thousands of dollars because the person they hired was not cut out for the job.
Medical billing is a very rewarding career and I absolutely love what I do. The day to day challenge of finding the correct ICD-10 and CPT codes, appending modifiers, submitting clean claims, working denials and posting payments ensures that you are learning something new and are never bored. Having said that, all of this didn't happen overnight or over a year. It took many years of working in the field and coming across various scenarios to be able to call myself proficient. A competent and knowledgeable biller must stay abreast with the rapidly changing healthcare regulations and guidelines. The NCCI edits, LCD and NCDs, OIG guidance are all very integral to becoming a successful biller and providing that great service for the doctor so that he/she can collect maximum reimbursement from payors.
Also, establishing my billing company took a lot of grinding. There were rejections, doctors wanting to low-ball me to do extra work and countless sleepless nights. My business only grew because we were able to produce results and our clients began to vouch for us and recommend us to their peers. Sure, data entry and submitting claims is the easy part but it does not stop there. Everything I mentioned above is part of building and sustaining a medical billing company.
Recently I spoke with a vendor that sells bio products, and is working with one of our clients. As he was explaining the claims process for these very expensive services, he kept saying that we shouldn't make any errors because delay in payment could be detrimental for this provider. We kept reassuring him that we are able to handle it but somehow he kept saying that he prefers using their own preferred billing company for their high success rates with these claims. On probing more about his hesitancy in trusting us, he said that many of his clients have in-house billers and they make mistakes with these claims or do not follow-up in a timely manner so they wanted to make sure that we were up for the task. This affirms my earlier statement that so many providers subscribe to the belief that, "medical billing is easy" and they leave a lot of money on the table.
In conclusion, if you are looking to get into medical billing, please do your due diligence and educate yourself in all areas of the revenue cycle before thinking that you can start your own billing company. You have to be honest and love this field for what it is and not go into it to make a quick buck, and don't get fooled by people when they tell you that it's "easy"!
