Thispage contains descriptions of additional quests in Prey which can be unlocked while exploring Hardware Labs which are one of the many areas on Talos I station. Completing these missions is completely optional but it will let you obtain valuable items.
This quest is automatically unlocked during your exploration of the Machine Shop in the west part of Hardware Labs during Through a Glass Darkly main quest. You receive it when you try to use the airlock that allows you to move to Talos I Exterior. You learn from January that the titular propulsion system is useful if you want to move in space.
Fortunately, unlocking the propulsion system is not that complicated. Search the north-west corner of the Machine Shop and look at the platform in the picture 1. You can get there by climbing one of the nearby constructions and performing a long jump. when you get there you must find Artax Propulsion System Fabrication Plan. You can get in the place presented in the picture 2, right next to one of the computer booths.
A fabricator can be found in the same place where you found the plan. Check if you can craft the propulsion system. The requirements for making this item are very low - 1 unit of mineral materials and 1 unit of synthetic materials (you can process any junk and get the materials). Crafting the propulsion system (you equip it automatically) ends this mission.
You can easily unlock this quest during the exploration of the space in Talos I Exterior during Through a Glass Darkly main quest. In said main mission you must reach the drifting Dr. Lorenzo Calvino's corpse. Besides doing that you can also check the control panel presented in the picture. The panel is broken but you can fix it by using Repair human ability.
Fixing the console gave you full access to Beams & Waves Lab which is located on level 2 of Hardware Labs. Go there (when you are on your way you must watch out for new Phantoms and Mimics!). The quest is completed right after you enter the lab but you can also unlock a new side mission called The Blackbox Project and take the Q-Beam weapon. You can find it in the shooting range presented in the picture above (use the terminal to unlock the shooting range).
This quest can only be started after you complete the side mission called Breach Access. This means that you must unlock the access to Beams & Waves Lab located on level 2 of Hardware Labs. When you get there you must check out Lane Carpenter's computer booth. By reading the e-mails you unlock this mission. You must find Josh Dalton, the engineer that was part of the Blackbox Project, because he is now missing.
You can immediately start searching for him or you can visit the Security Station and use the computer to find him on the list. Doing that allows you to track, more or less, his whereabouts.
This mission can be continued when you reach the location called G.U.T.S. which is visited for the first time during Detour main quest. Go through almost the entire location until you reach the fork in the road presented in the picture above. Choose the right tunnel, the one that leads to Deep Storage and Shuttle Bay.
During your fly you must watch out for radiation crates and new Cystoids nests. Slow down after you go through the narrow tunnel with the tracks, the one that goes the other way twice. If you have activated the location of Josh Dalton then you should be about 50 meters from him. Find the small opening under the pipes, presented in the picture 1, through which you can fly. This allows you to reach Dalton's corpse presented in the picture 2 but before you examine his body you must destroy Cystoids. By examining his body you get Blackbox Lab Keycard although you can also look aroun the area and find, among others, a Q-Beam and a TranScribe.
You must now go back to the place where you started this quest, to Beams & Waves Lab in Hardware Labs. Inside of that lab you can probably find a new Weaver. Just to remind you, you should use Nullwave transmitters to get rid of Weaver's force field and then use regular weapons to attack the creature. The defeated monster (who was Lane Carpenter) leaves, among others, Q-Beam Cells Fabrication Plan.
You can now use the keycard and enter the Blackbox Lab. The most important thing to do is to use the computer and download the Blackbox Project data. Besides that you can also download Q-Beam Fabrication Plan and search the lab so you can find, among others, Q-Beam Cells.
Missions in the 3D mode were released for Gold Members on August 09, 2011. Players without Gold Membership gained access to missions on August 24, 2011. The missions are activated by entering one of the five Outposts.
You are able to play two missions per day per outpost which means ten missions per day if you run between outposts. This means you can do a mission at Precinct 13, then do a mission at Fort Pastor within the same day. You can only have 1 active mission at any moment; accepting a new mission while you already have another one will not activate the new mission. If you do not finish a mission on time and are still in the process of doing it, the mission will end. It will not be shown on the map anymore, and you will not be able to finish it, sometimes leaving you stuck with non-transferable items. If this happens, you can scrap these items in the Yard.
All missions listed here are in order from top to bottom. Every mission has the same time limit to accomplish which is exactly 12 hours before it expires. When all missions have been accomplished, the mission cycle will repeat over again from the top to the bottom. If a player misses a mission, they can still try it when the next mission cycle begins.
Mission rewards scale with level, reaching a maximum of 3.075x cash and 13.45x EXP reward for level 415. The reward value is doubled for Gold Member, and not affected by nourishment EXP multiplier, event/Drugs/Implants bonus, or profession EXP boost. The numbers on this page shows the base value for mission rewards, with values in parenthesis being the rewards for Gold Members.
We'd like to start a search for them, but we have no idea where to look. We were hoping Katie might be able to provide us with some information. Unfortunately she appears to have lost or repressed most her recent memories. The only thing she does seem to know is that she lost her dolly.
We'd like you to look for the doll. Hopefully being reunited with it will trigger some memories about what happened. I've marked the area where she was found on your map, my hunch is the doll will be somewhere nearby.
The mission simply involves looting a doll from somewhere in the mission area. There is no hint as to where it might be, so any lootable container can produce it. Keep searching until you find it, and eliminate any opposition with your looting weapon of choice.
Katie, the little girl we rescued a couple of days ago has managed to remember what happened. Apparently her family were trying to reach the Holdout after hearing one of our radio broadcasts, but their truck broke down en route. Unfortunately they were attacked by a group of infected while they attempted to repair the vehicle. Katie said her dad told her to run and that's what she did. She ran so far that she couldn't remember her way back. Based on the girl's hazy description there are two possible locations this could of happened.
My team and I are going to check out one of these locations, and we need you to search the other (which I've marked on your map). Chances are we'll only find bodies, but I want to be sure. If by some miracle they did survive the ordeal then we need to get them back to the Holdout asap.
The mission is not complete until the father speaks a few times, and he will not speak while zombies are nearby. Luckily, zombies only show up in groups of 2-3 instead of overwhelming numbers like in later areas; simply kill them with your looting weapon to proceed.
It's no secret, the Holdout is rapidly running out of food supplies. Today I had to reduce the daily ration by a further 25%. Our population is already sick and severely malnourished, and I fear that we'll be seeing a lot of deaths from starvation in the coming weeks if something isn't done.
In the past we managed to survive simply by looting the neighboring households and stores of tinned supplies. However these resources are rapidly being depleted. Our only option in short term is to loot food supplies from further afield. One of our scout parties recently reported spotting several large food delivery trucks a couple of miles to the east. I want you to go to this location (I've marked it on your map) and bring back as many food supplies from the trucks as you can.
As you're probably aware, the scientists here at the Holdout have been working tirelessly in an attempt to find a cure for the N4 virus. Such a cure may be a very long way off, but it represents the best chance of humanity ever returning to any kind of normality. Therefore I consider our research program to extremely high priority.
In order to conduct their research our scientists require a vast quantity of infected blood samples. Unfortunately these samples are incredibly difficult and dangerous to obtain so we don't exactly have many volunteers coming forward. So that's why I'm talking to you.
Only the male zombies wearing red clothings will drop a blood sample; luckily, they will drop 100% of the time, and some will automatically sprint at you a while after you enter the block. Any looting weapon will suffice at taking them down.
There appears to be an epidemic spreading through the Holdout. Dozens of people have fallen sick in the past few weeks, and we've already had several fatalities. Our doctors are of the opinion that it a kind of bacterial infection, some are even saying it's Cholera. Whatever it is, we need to halt it in it's tracks as soon as possible. To do this we need powerful anti-biotics, but we simply don't have enough available at this time.
