In 2010, the Cauce publishing house of the Cuban Association of Writers and Artists (Uneac), in Pinar del Río, presented the first edition of the book entitled As de Corazones, reissued two years later, in its Almargen collection.

Its author is the multi-awarded writer Nelson Simón, who won the 2009 Alcorta contest, whose jury was made up of writers and editors Soledad Cruz, Waldo González and Carlos Fuentes Rodríguez. The edition of the book was in charge of Carlos Fuentes, the correction was made by Marilén Mendoza, and the design by Lídice López Labrador. Because of its quality, this small book was also awarded the Critics' Prize of the Cuban Institute of the Book.

The illustrations deserve a special mention for their perfect finish and for their evident mastery of light and shadow, of values in areas and volumes, of the very creation of attitudes and beings, which enjoyed the inspiration of Raúl Martínez; who shows his talent both in drawing in black and white and in color. In spite of not having the shades in the interior images, the creator achieves incomparable art in his aesthetic proposals, some close to caricature, others to metaphors.

The book is divided in half in parts named with the numbers One and Two. The first part includes the story entitled Aquellos que de amor sembraron lirios, a phrase by Miguel Matamoros that provokes a text of exquisite lyricism about a mother and her daughter, about loss and absence, about the help of fantasy to heal the terrible wounds left by the death of a loved one. It then contrasts with Historia de un beso, an amusing story that recreates the emotions encountered at the first kiss, which is supposed to please both parties involved and does not always happen in our adolescence. Later on we enjoy Seré eternamente tuya, another story that takes high school students as its main characters, this time debating among different pressure groups; each one with different criteria about love and friendship, especially when the character has certain physical characteristics that diminish it before the canons of apparent beauty, handled by most of his fellow students; like being black or having to wear graduated glasses.

Sagitario is the last title of the first part, divided in 10 chapters that lead the action to an unexpected outcome. It overflows this humor and imagination, since the author, identified in a first-person narrator who turns out to be another singular teenager, adopts all kinds of beliefs and superstitions in order to guess the arrival of his first love.

Part Two is dedicated to the loves of other less young ages, of other times, but equally deep and true. Thus, we are presented with the titles Valentín and Valentina, and Lilo and Nanana, both brimming with poetry in a rather simple and accurate language, not at all overloaded, in charge of transmitting that soft intimacy and subtle delicacy through the actions of characters who stand as witnesses that these feelings can flourish at any time and place in life.

Nelson Simón was born in 1965 and is one of the most recognized voices in Cuban narrative and poetry. We remember his La Rosa Blanca Prize, awarded three times for En el cofre de un pirata, in 1999, awarded by the Hermanos Loynaz publishing house in Pinar del Río, also for Manuscritos de Pink Mountain, in 2006, and for Preguntas de Rocío, in 2007, awarded by the Gente Nueva publishing house; his Oriente y de la Crítica award, in 2004, for Brujas, hechizos y otros disparates, in 2000, published by the Betania publishing house in Madrid; and his La Edad de Oro Award in 2003 for Maíz desgranado.

As de Corazones, a small literary treasure for childhood and youth, is also enjoyable for adulthood and old age, for its deeply human projection and full of sensitivity. Among its charms are the intentionally selected phrases with which each story begins: verses by Amaury Pérez, Félix Pita Rodríguez, Silvio Rodríguez, and other Cuban authors who stand out for the use of ingenious images in their creations, which enriches the presentation of each theme of this precious work that we suggest you read from our pages.

This takes us to the second aspect to address: After deciding to use either "suyo" or "tuyo", you might need to modify it to match your gender. If you are a male, you don't need to make any modifications, if you are a female, you would use "suya" or "tuya".
