And a simple photo of a zebra at the water's edge. Can't help but notice how seeing a baby all alone is a melancholy sight, but an adult alone with its reflection is somehow beautiful and a little poetic. (though I'll refrain from composing a poem)
My passion for Utah landscapes was first kindled when I read How to Photograph the Southwest by Laurent Martres over 15 years ago. Of all the wonders Laurent revealed to me, Zebra Canyon was one of the most intriguing that I had not yet been able to visit.
About halfway thru the hike, I caught up with the folks who had beat me to the parking lot that morning. They were a friendly bunch of college guys were who told me they had been on the trail for an hour but had gotten lost a couple of times. I think it bothered them that a guy three times their age had caught up to them because, after a few cheerful words, they took off in a dust cloud of youthful energy.
A couple of moments later, the college kids I had seen earlier popped around the bend and I surrendered my little bit of heaven to the next batch of fortunate souls. It turned out they had got lost again so I shared with them the magic of my AllTrails app. That struck me as kinda funny: You know, an old dude schooling youngsters on new technology!
On the hike back I took time to check out some of the impressive landscapes that I had pretty much ignored in my morning rush to get to Zebra. The temperature started climbing toward the forecasted high of 90 F (32C) and as I neared the parking lot I started to see dozens of folks just starting their shadeless hike. I took a long, cool drink and silently patted myself on the back for being an early bird.
Plains zebras have at least 6 different vocal calls. A two-syllable call is used to alert herd members to predators while snorts indicate happiness. They also use facial expressions to communicate. When greeting each other, they will stick their ears up and push their faces forward. When feeling threatened, they will press their ears against their heads.
The quagga, Equus quagga, a South African relative of horses and zebras, having a front half with zebra-like stripes and a back section like a horse with no marking, became extinct about 100 years ago. The pelt from a quagga museum specimen was the subject of tissue sampling that launched the field of ancient DNA analysis.
In the past, the quagga has alternatively been described as a species and a subspecies of the Plains zebra. These researchers asked how and when the quagga diverged from all the remaining related horses, zebras, and asses. They compared the genetics, coat color and habitats of existing zebras with related extinct species.
I'm trying to create a label that will print in landscape format. I'm creating my label as a smartform. I know from sap note 750772 that the only way I can print the label in landscape format is via command S_LZPL_SETUP '^FWR'.
This command works as in the label prints landscape but the text is appearing at the bottom of the landscape page rather than the top and the text is overlapping. I've put the text at the very top of the portrait page, if i put it anywhere else it doesn't even appear on the landscape output.
Jerry Lee Holly, of the 13200 block of Duley Station Road, was accused of failing to provide adequate food, water, or veterinary care for his herd of nearly 40 zebras. A jury sided with him in this case.
The case dates back to Aug. 26, 2021, when the Prince George's County Animal Services Division was made aware of at least three zebras that had escaped from Holly's 300-acre farm. At that time, animal services officers spoke with Holly, who was aware of the three runaway zebras, but "had no plan to recapture the zebras at that time," court documents alleged.
"The animal should have been seen or heard while it was dying from being caught in the snare if the caretaker had attended to the zebras in the fenced enclosure, and most likely died of dehydration after a period of a few days struggling in the trap," authorities opined. "However, by the time that DNR responded, on September 16, the animal was completely decomposed and so the cause of death could not be specifically determined."
Additionally, on Oct. 19, 2021, a local news helicopter spotted what appeared to be a dead zebra in an enclosure on Holly's farm. The news agency contacted authorities, which responded to the farm and found the zebra deceased and in the rigor-mortis stage. Farm staffers were unable to provide investigators with a cause of death.
The United States Department of Agriculture said they found several areas of concern while inspecting the Prince George's County zebra farm from where the animals escaped. The report went on to list sanitation problems, including hazardous items and rotting in the barn.
The first witness, Jacob Cook, a Prince George's County animal control officer for nine years, said on Aug. 26, 2021, he received a personal phone call that prompted an investigation into zebras running at large. He said he notified his supervisor because of the unique nature of the situation and got into his county-issued vehicle and headed to Croom Road to try to locate the animals.
