Just wondering what the current state of the union is?

Will there be a release at some point in the future?

I've been putting together a blog post on this. I'm in the process of adding a new feature (actually an old feature which originally appeared in the legacy branch) called "roles" which allows you to create classes of gen_servers.

There's also been a lot of work on the PEG branch lately, which allows a more expressive grammar and overcomes some of the lexer/parser feedback problems with leex/yecc.

In addition to that, I've been pursuing documentation and addressing the practical problems of using Reia, as well as looking for some immediate use cases. One of the ones that has come up is using Reia for Riak MapReduce.

I've seen some of the PEG messages fly past, but don't quite
understand any of that :)

The current progress is really exciting, and I am mostly wondering
when something will be stable enough in the new PEG branch to start
working with in earnest ... from there I will be able to start
pitching in with my own documentation and usage ideas.

I'm in the same situation. Getting ready to use reia in some projects. :)

Well, you'll both be happy to know my main focus now is improving Reia from a practical perspective. This includes trying to write some Reia libraries myself and discovering the problems, and improving the documentation.

The only advantage of the PEG branch is a more expressive syntax.

The leex/yecc branch still works, however there are some various gramatical gotchas, namely with interpolated strings and newline handling.

The PEG branch also handles the new syntax for regular expressions.  (Not a major draw, but I know it is one of Tony's favourites. ;-) )

I have been doing some work on performance of the PEG parser. No great breakthroughs sadly, but some insights and some minor positive steps.

I will write up my findings and the progress so far when I get a moment - hopefully this weekend, but if not, then most likely not before middle of next week.
