It has recently been suggested that registry cleaning software can
have a positive impact on Windows performance. Although this is likely
true, there has been a trend emerging in registry cleaner software
that can make selection of a suitable registry utility a problem.
Although it is probable that most of the software on the market will
adequately perform the cleaning task, one runs into problems when
selecting software based on web site recommendations. After a thorough
examination of the available tools we found a common trend. That being
the lack of a company identified with many of the tools.
There are a large number of registry cleaners that have websites that
are nearly identical, with the same testimonials by the same people
(presumably fake), the same page layout and navigation naming scheme,
etc. But most of all, they had the same support available - email
only. Otherwise they had no company associated with them, no physical
contact information, no address, no post box, no city, state or
country.
As soon as we see that kind of information lacking a red flag goes up.
Who is behind this product? Are they in it for money only? And why are
they being recommended by so many websites across the Internet? When
support questions arise and we don't receive a reply to our email
where can we go?
There are 2 possible scenarios that may be leading this trend. 1, the
people behind the product are conducting market research by using
different selling points or black hat strategies (such as installing
the utility along with spyware) for each similar product and don't
want to be identified. Or 2, the real company that manufactures the
software sells a rebranded version of their software to individuals
who then market the software with the new name. We weren't able to
determine which, if either of these is correct but we offer them to
remind you - do your research before you buy!
In our research we identified 3 registry cleaner software packages
that stand above the others as unique tools (not rebranded), but only
2 of them appeared to have a real company behind them who offered
their physical location and contact information. These two registry
cleaners were Registry Mechanic and RegCure. Although you will likely
have success with cleaning your registry no matter which product you
choose, we were alarmed by the lack of human presence behind the
majority of software available. If you are looking to increase your
Windows performance and repair errors with a good registry cleaner
software, choose Registry Mechanic or RegCure - you won't be
disappointed by either one. Both have won many awards, and they get
our award for being among the only registry tools backed by a real
company.
