Installed and running binaries.

2 comments to be made

  • the link to binaries started to return 404, since the other day, seems some changes have occured since i downloaded originally.
  • there was no source zips/tars, cannot verify that i can build from source, as lack of these.
Cheers
Mike

Its still showing as draft, like wise a src tar and zip bundle isn't showing still on the releases section, only binary

Cheers

Hi all,

I am unable to find the 0.3.0 release tar/zip. Does anyone have a link?

Great. Thanks for the prompt response, Harsha. Are these bits in maven central? I tried to add dependency from https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/com.hortonworks.registries/schema-registry/0.3.0 in my project, but it doesn't seem to find it.

Harsha,

It seems in doing this, you've made a new tag somehow, and overriden the old release that was tested and voted on here, and now has additional changes since thus breaking the contract of tags.

Can we resolve asap, that the 0.3.0 is that of the distribution release in July.

And if subsequent release version is wanted/needed it should be versioned differently.

Cheers
Mike

Prashant,
           Registry 0.3.0 artifacts are published to maven central. I was able to create a project and make a dependency on 0.3.0 registry artifacts like below

 <dependency>

            <groupId>com.hortonworks.registries</groupId>

            <artifactId>schema-registry-serdes</artifactId>

            <version>0.3.0</version>

        </dependency>

Micahel,
          Can you elaborate please I am bit confused why we made a new tag. It looks like the release notes were still in draft which I thought I published it already. So all I did was to move draft mode publish mode. We did vote this based on tag 0.3.0 and nothing added to it after I published the maven artifacts.

Thanks,
Harsha

Harsha, if you take download now, and expand the src (from github) you will notice the src, is essentially the same as current master. Not the code back from end of july.

So roughly the original 0.3.0 tag was based on this branch (thankfully not affected)

you've somehow made a tag based from master (see commit and age of the latest commit)

Also checking the now changed github release artefacts are changed :( and are of this.

I think essentially you've somehow retagged master as 0.3.0 , not rebuilt/retagged off the 0.3.0 branch (original tag)

What I'm saying is you've changed what 0.3.0 is.

Ok got it. Updated the release with tag from 0.3.0 branch. Thanks for pointing it out.

Have you cleared down what went to maven? And corrected this also?

Looks like maven central dates are still July, so should be ok, from the few artefacts i checked. Worth checking though if you pushed something.

Maven central artifacts came from 0.3.0 branch and it needs manual mvn deploy command to run to be published and once published they can’t be overridden with same version number. So those artifacts are right and this publish on github doesn’t trigger any changes there.

Harsha

So tag v0.3.0 github src looks better.

There seems to be two artefacts on github release that aren't right. named registry-0.3.0.zip (and tar.gz) on downloading these, it seems the content is still of the incorrect tag content.

Thanks for sharing the correct dependency snippet. It was not working for me earlier as I was using referring to https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/com.hortonworks.registries/schema-registry/0.3.0 which has the following -

<dependency>
    <groupId>com.hortonworks.registries</groupId>
    <artifactId>schema-registry</artifactId>
    <version>0.3.0</version>
    <type>pom</type>
</dependency>

Can someone fix this?

Thanks again,
Prashant

As a user of registry all you need is schema-registry-client or schema-registry-serdes (if you are planning to use avro serdes). Like shown here in examples

What you are looking at is the project pom artifact there.  Probably good to add a section in the docs on “how to”  here https://registry-project.readthedocs.io describing how the clients should be used and what artifacts to depend on.

Thanks,
Harsha
