Issues that Affect Your Community*” essay competition. *The essay contest
winner will receive a $500 scholarship!*
Contestants must meet the following requirements to compete in the essay
competition (below):
1) African-American or Latino student
2) High school senior
3) 3.0 minimum GPA
4) Total household income $100,000 or less
*Essay Question*
*HOPE:* Based on recent data from the Pew Research Center, Blacks claim to
be the least disturbed of any demographic group at the state of the economy,
despite having suffered the most. Some critics say that some Black people’s
ability to assess their own economic situation has been severely compromised
by the mere existence of a Black president.* Are these facts indicative of a
relentless hope and strength in poor communities, or are these delusions
that will impair poor communities’ progress in the future? What role does
hope or faith play in the survival of poor communities?*
*Essays should be no longer than 750 words*. All contestants must submit the
following *here*

3) Essay (Microsoft Word format)
