Dear All
Can I draw to your attention a public consultation that is going to be taking place this week. I am sorry for leaving it so late telling you all about it, but I did not have all the details about it until earlier today.
The subject of the consultation is improvements to the pavement on the North side of Kings Road, between Middle Street and just before the bus layby in front of the Thistle Hotel. In a nutshell, the proposals include
widening the pavements, including narrowing the entrances to the side streets,
putting raised tables across the junctions of Kings Road with Middle Street, Ship Street and Black Lion Street (a raised table is where the road surface is raised so that it is on a level with the pavement on either side - so people using the pavement can cross the road without having to change level) This may include the removal of some of the railings to allow more direct routes for pedestrians etc.
loading bays and bus areas incorporated into new areas of the extended pavement, in a similiar vein to what you see on Western Road or emerging on North Street.
additonal crossing point at the bottom of Black Lion Street, so there would be a crossing from either side of BLS to access the seafront
reconfiguration of the islands between the two opposing traffic flows on the A road.
These are just the proposals, and can be changed according to the results of the consultation. I would urge you all to go along to the consultation sessions and make comments.
The consultation is taking place at the Jubilee Library on Thursday 20th November between 9am and 7pm, Friday 21st November 9-5, and Saturday 9-12.30.
I apologise again for the short notice, but I do hope that you are able to make it along.
If you have any comments or concerns with the plans, as well as letting the staff at the consultation know, please feel free to write to me also.
See you all next week.
