I today attended the licensing review for Oxygen, West Street which is next
to the Avalon residential development. I was pleased to see a number of
other local residents there.
Following the hearing a panel of three councillors decided to suspend
Oxygen's license for one week, remove the current designated premises
supervisor, require stricter age checking and require two door staff on
Thursdays to Saturdays.
They also required the new designated premises supervisor to be physically
present in Oxygen at ALL times while alcohol is being sold for the next
three months.
Personally, given the severity of Oxygen's infractions (failing three
underage test purchases, public nuisance through noise disturbance etc) I
would have liked to see at least a longer suspension than one week.
So there we have it. Residents can always call for another license review if
they are unhappy with the Oxygen's conduct in the future.
All the best,
Jason
