Local Action Team Chairs Development Session

11th February 9.15am - 2pm

Brighthelm Centre, North Road, BN1 1YD

Dear Local Action Team Chair,

As part of the Community Engagement Framework the Neighbourhood Management team, the Police and Partnership Community Safety Team are in the process of reviewing Local Action Teams across the city. We hope that this work will ensure that the all the Local Action Teams are supported and the engagement between LAT’s and service providers is as effective as possible.

As you may be aware there are currently around 50 Local Action Teams.  Many of these have evolved over a number of years and in various ways. Some have been set up as local forums and function as LAT’s and others been driven by Sussex Police, local Councillors, Residents or Council officers, as a means of creating a local engagement network with a focus on community safety issues. The organic growth of LATs is seen as positive, as they are able to be responsive to community need and issues that arise from neighbourhoods. However, when reviewing the LAT’s it is clear that there are a number of issues that still need to be resolved.

In order begin to look at some of these issues and ensure that the LAT’s are as effective as possible we would like to invite you to a development session to begin the work necessary to produce the following:

·   A standard Terms of Reference for LAT’s

·   Clear communication and information about LAT’s

·   Planned and appropriate support from service providers

·   A process to ensure that LAT’s do duplicate existing reporting mechanisms

·   A clear Local Authority approach to engagement with LAT’s

·   Rationalise the support provided by a range of paid and unpaid workers

·   Support to ensure each LAT is representative and accountable to the local community.

The Development Session will be held on 11th February 9.15am - 2pm Brighthelm Centre, North Road, BN1 1YD and lunch will be provided.
